Cancelled & Rescheduling: Meetup #25: Public Sector Design Sprint

***Due to heavy weather. We are in the process of rescheduling this event. We will update this posting with new information soon.***

Public Sector Design Sprint, Iron Chef Edition

Presented by Abby Wilson and Andrew Grebe

This session is open to those members who have taken our Design Thinking 101 course, are a current practitioner in a related field and/or have taken at least some basic DT courses with another institution/program

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to do human-centered design amidst the unique opportunities, constraints, and complexities of the public sector?

We will simulate a design challenge over the course of the evening by starting with a deceptively simple problem statement, some basic stakeholder profiles, and a few design methods you must incorporate.  We’ll then throw in wild cards, motivations, constraints, and resources along the way to see how you can roll with the punches, react and pivot as necessary, and stay true to the mission of the project all the while.  Not for the faint of heart :)

AGENDA

6:30PM: Arrive and Networking

6:45PM: Begin

9:00PM: End

About Our Session Leaders:

Abby joined the US Office of Personnel Management from LUMA Institute, a human-centered design education firm where she directed its work in the public and non-profit sectors.  Abby holds a B.A. in Cultural Anthropology from Columbia University, an LL.M. in Public International Law from Universiteit Utrecht, and a J.D. from the University of Pittsburgh.  She is a professionally trained alto and a seasoned theatrical improviser.

Andrew Grebe is a Business Operations Analyst at the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM). Andrew manages the budgets and provides operational analysis and solutions to two programs at OPM, the LAB @ OPM and the Presidential Management Fellows (PMF) Program. He also delivers Human Centered Design Workshops and targeted design support to other OPM operations. Andrew holds a B.S. in Finance from Florida State University.  He has spent the last year and half practicing Human Centered Design in the Federal space and is a Lean Six Sigma black belt.

The Wait List Process:
The Meetup.com Wait List function works on a first come first served basis. This means that when a seat opens up, the people on the Wait List will all get an email notifying them that a space has become available. The first person to login to Meetup and claim the seat will get the space. When spaces become available, they usually get claimed within 1-5 minutes so you must act quickly.

Jim, You are spot on. Best ever design meeting for RAPID prototyping; was over before it even began.

Thus was the very best cancelled meetup I never attended. I love the way Meetup wants veto know. Who says DT DC isn't special?

Darn, I'll have to sit this one out. I have enjoyed the DT:DC get togethers very much.
