MiKE (Innovation In MKE) with Dale Dougherty of MAKE Magazine & Maker Faire!

Hey everyone,

The Spreenkler Meetup is excited to partner with MiKE on this exciting event!

Please join us for a special MiKE Council Meeting, hosted by Bucketworks, featuring Dale Dougherty (TEDTalk), co-founder of O'Reilly Media, founding editor and publisher of MAKE Magazine and co-creator of Maker Faire.

MAKE Magazine debuted in 2005, followed by the first Maker Faire in the Bay Area in 2006. In 2011, Maker Faire attracted over 100,000 guests in the Bay Area, as well as large audiences in Detroit and New York City.

Before MAKE, Dougherty was the developer of Global Network Navigator (GNN), the first commercial website, launched in 1993 and sold to America Online in 1995. He was also developer and publisher of Web Review, the online magazine for web designers from 1995-1999. He was a lecturer at the UC-Berkeley School of Information from[masked], and was also publisher of the O'Reilly Network and developed the Hacks series of books.

Dougherty is passionate about fostering a new generation of "makers" who are creative, innovative and curious. On February 19th, 2012, he was featured on CNN's "The Next List" and interviewed by Sanjay Gupta at MAKE headquarters in Sebastopol, California.

On November 3rd, 2011, the White House recognized Dougherty as one of the "Champions of Change: Make It in America" for his work in helping to create high-quality jobs in the United States. In May 2012, Dougherty led the launch of Maker Education Initiative, a nonprofit dedicated to creating opportunities for young people to make their ideas come to life.

Dale is also the keynote speaker for the 9th annual SySTEMnow Conference in Milwaukee on Thursday, October 25th. Check out his TEDTalk.

We hope to see you there!

Great event, great people, great venue. I am in favor continuing the Spreenkler meetups at Bucketworks as it attracts professionals from many various makerspaces and incubators within Milwaukee.
