Web + Wow: An Exploration of the Web as a Medium
with CJ Gammon (@cjgammon)

The web is becoming an increasingly mixed medium with the growing list of technologies we have at our disposal. In this session we will discuss rich web experiences and different techniques used to achieve them. We will also cover new and upcoming web features and explore how these may change the way we create rich web content in the future.

Unmasking the GPU: Using Hardware Acceleration Correctly in CSS
with Divya Manian (@divya)

Browsers have been offloading more and more of newer CSS features to be processed by the GPU. This is a new unmapped territory which makes it more important to understand how and when browsers do this, so you can prevent disruptive behaviour for your users that may even end up in crashing their computers. Learn which CSS properties are accelerated, how and what you can do to make sure you know when and how to use them correctly to ensure smooth experience.

Lightning Talks
Have something interesting you’d like to talk about that you can present in five minutes or less? Reach out to us with a title of your topic and a brief description on what it encompasses to see if it’d be a good fit for this event.

The event is sponsored by Adobe, to whom we owe a huge thanks for providing not only their office as the venue, but also food, drinks, two of their incredible employees, and items to raffle off to attendees.

Thanks everyone to everyone for coming out! This was our first big event and hopefully just the first of many to come in the future. If you're interested in hosting your own presentation or offering up a space to meet, please feel free to reach out to me at [masked].

In the meantime, check out our next "Designer Drinkup" event at Bloodhound on Wednesday the 12th!

Thanks to everyone who attended. If you wanted to fill out the habits/practices survey we had, but couldn't get time at a computer, we have posted it here:

I know surveys are basically no fun, but we will be posting the results of this to the group, so you can understand what tools are being used by our peers & what kinds of work we do as a group. It's really a win-win situation, (although it must be re-emphasized that the survey does take some effort.) But you'll be doing a great thing for a great group! And your participation will be really appreciated.

We had an awesome turnout for the event, and those who attended were very, very generous with giving us their time to complete the survey. (40% participation rate!). Really excited to see such a great community forming. Thanks in advance for taking the time to help all of us out!

I definitely learned something in the second presentation. It was great seeing the rendering layers and getting some tips on how and when to engage the GPU. I actually shared a bit of that knowledge an hour ago!

I agree that the first presentation was awesome. It was a great demo and a good visual way to show off what's possible in the browser.
