Pride and Prejudice Turns 200!

This story from BBC news (link below) discusses the appeal of Pride and Prejudice, events planned for its 200th anniversary next month, and some of the modern spin-offs it has produced. It mentions a new movie that played at the Sundance Film Festival called "Austenland," about an obsessive Austen fan who spends her life savings to visit an Austen theme park in the UK. A group viewing of that film would be a great outing if it comes here!

Happy Austen reading!

Marni

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. The BBC is first-rate. The forthcoming book by Ms. Byrne looks quite good: http://www.ft.com/int...

I find this to be a rather handsome edition to one's library: http://www.hup.harvar...

A favorite blog pertaining to Ms. Austen: http://janeaustenswor...

I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the book had arrived at my local booksellers today.

And here's another delightful bit of P&P info: Conde Nast Traveler has a photo slide show of some of the locations used in both the 1995 and 2005 film adaptations of the book. Let's plan a trip to Pemberly!

How wonderful it would be to live in such a majestic house by oneself (excepting staff, of course). I shall have to settle for this documentary about Chatsworth: http://www.chatsworth...
