Program a flying robot with node!
We'll use the Parrot AR.Drone 2.0 Quadricopter as our platform http://www.amazon.com/Parrot-AR-Drone-Quadricopter-Controlled-Android/dp/B007HZLLOK.
If you don't have a drone, buy one. If you don't want to buy one, just hang out and code with others.
Soon we will join the ranks of http://nodecopter.com/ and do a full-day hack event. In the meantime, let's play for a couple hours after work.
This meetup is co-produced with Ribbon Farm: Makers http://www.meetup.com/ribbonfarm.

Sick! Lets hope we can get a show just as spectacular.
I have never been to a meetingWhat is the best place to park?
0 · December 10, 2012
Teleportation is always my first choice. There are a couple parking lots and garages close by. You do have to pay to park though. I work downtown so parking is free for me. Maybe others could comment on the "best" place.
the best spot is the Opera House Parking Center. The entrance you want is approximately at 258 john r rd. here is a google map to the entrance: http://goo.gl/maps/BX...
There is also *limited* street parking
I agree with Brian, i find the opera house to be the easiest especially now the Tigers are done playing. I think its $5 on non event days.
thanks! used the opera house!

It was nice meeting everyone last night. I thought it was great that the guys from Parrot and SkySpecs were there sharing their knowledge.
FYI: I found this project were Max Ogden is running node on the ar.drone Linux platform to interface sensors via the serial port.https://gist.github.com/4152815
I thought it would be cool to expand on this concept and see if it is possible to control an ar.drone with a pure node implementation.
Awesome meetup last night, wonderful surprise seeing the SkySpecs/MAAV quadrocopter.
Might have been inspiring enough to get me to purchase my own after the holidays.

This was an incredible meetup!
There was a great turn out. The people from AR Drone came and acted as our tech support and also, the engineers from U of M came and demoed their quadricopter which was $16,000. Awesome!
It was amazing. Got to meet some more really cool people. The people from parrot were helpful and it was cool to talk and learn more about the products they have to offer.
I uploaded this video of the quad-copter demo from SkySpecs/MAAV. Check it out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cWg9hc0IF8w

Just got off the phone with Julie from Parrot (makers of the AR.Drone).
Reps from AR.Drone will be joining us for our meetup on Thursday. Thanks to Adam Magaluk's suggestion, they will be bringing extra batteries and some technical expertise about their products.
See you all on Thursday!

Ordered my Drone today. Love Amazon Prime, will be here on Wednesday. Just in time for me to play with it first before we nodeify it.
Very neat! It be really cool if we could get one of their guys to come out and rep AR Drone and possibly bring extra batteries for the event. I've been thinking we're not going to go for very long on a 15min flight and 1/1.5 hr recharge. I was going to order one or two extra batteries for mine before the event.

adam, i talked with the rep today and made the request for extra batteries. she's going to see what she can do.

Just got off the phone with AR.Drone tech support. Turns out their North American HQ is in Southfield, MI!
Going to connect with their marketing team about our events.
