Go on the Lantern Lit Underground Railway Tour.

There are several dates for this tour, but I am planning to go on Saturday evening, September 20th. It begins in Detroit at the Second Baptist Church at the corner of Monroe and Beaubien in Greektown.  Karin Risko, the guide and organizer for Hometown History Tours will lead us along stops on Detroit's Underground Railroad, a very important part of our history. The tour is at least two and a half hours long, so wear comfortable shoes and dress appropriately!  We will have dinner beforehand.  You must purchase a ticket to participate; space is limited.

Dana , thank you for organizing and putting up with the 87 posts for this event. I had a great time. Karen and her group did a great job. I would highly recommend the tour to everyone. The after tour saganaki was great and it was nice to relax and talk with the actors. Look forward to future events. And if anyone has a photo of Jim and I with the ladies of the night - please post.

Hey Will, thanks again for giving me a ride to my car! Despite the rain and my sore ankle, I had enjoyed this outing. It was nice to talk with Karen and the actors afterward. I was happy to make some new friends.

There are many parking lots in the area. Monroe Street will probably be most expensive. Tour begins in Greektown but ends at Jefferson & Woodward so you can even park near there. I've parked for free at Greektown Casino parking lot near hotel on non-game/event days. Can't guarantee that will be free but may be worth a try. See you all tonight. Thanks!

Hi, I understand this is closed, but I'm still unclear how to go about buying tickets for future events. Can someone please explain? According to their website, the SBC doesn't hold tours at 6pm on Saturdays. Please help clarify this. Thanks!

We've added a second date. Description and link to purchase tickets can be found in the event details. Thanks for your interest. http://www.meetup.com...

I realize the frustration and confusion. One of the reasons why this was not closed on the site long ago is that people were submitting RSVPs but not purchasing tickets.

Karin has sent out parking information to those 35 individuals who have purchased tickets and are going on the tour.

Due to space limitations, only those 35 are going...we CANNOT accomodate all 160 plus who RSVPed.

Thank you for understanding. There are spots available for the 27th if you'd like to sign up for that date.

Not sure if you just called me but UGRR is figurative as in secretive or clandestine. The antislavery story.

SOLD OUT!!!! Karin Risko has a list of the first 35 people who purchased tickets. These are the ones who will be going on the tour for September 20th. She will be contacting you this week. • Robin

Hi new to the group, do I just go to the link for the 27th and purchase will that be my RSVP?

      September 3

    • Karin R.

Hi Robin, Thanks for your inquiry. For some events, you just RSVP. For this event, however, tickets need to be purchased in advance as there are only 35 spots (28 now remaining). Link enables you to order online.

      September 3

  • Karin R.

Hi Everyone, We appreciate your response but have to limit space as a walking tour isn't enjoyable with too many people. I did open it to 35 so that is the max for this date. This is the time of year we offer our Notorious 313 True Crime & Tour which takes up my weekends. I do have Sept 27 free. Before I check with church and actors, I'd like to see if there is sufficient interest in adding another date. Please respond if you are available and want to attend on Sept 27. Thank you!

The tour on the 20th is full. Karen Risko, coordinator of Hometown History Tours is working on an additional date, I believe the 27th. I will not be there on the 27th, so as for a dinner if someone else would like to make plans they are more than welcome.
