In our 175th year of statehood, celebrate Michigan's first governor, Stevens T. Mason, the hotspur who had the bald audacity to go toe-to-toe with Andrew Jackson and lead the charge to Michigan statehood, valiantly battled Ohio for control of Toledo, and became the youngest state governor in American history.
Join us for:
- Sunset salutations at Mason's grave in Capitol Park with Amy Elliott Bragg, author of "Hidden History of Detroit" (6:00 PM)
- Champagne toast at Sky Bar (7:00 PM)
- Discussions with Don Faber, author of "Boy Governor: Stevens T. Mason and the Birth of Michigan Politics," and Jack Dempsey, author of "Michigan and the Civil War: A Great and Bloody Sacrifice"
Drinks! History! Discourse! Join us! (P.S. - Sky Bar is SO EXCITED to see you guys again. When I told him some DDHS members might be coming, the manager asked me how much extra booze he should stock. DRINK UP, FRIENDS!)
