Ken Fox, Garbage Collection In-depth

Ken will be surveying key garbage collection algorithms. He'll be showing how they work, comparing their strengths and weaknesses, and even getting into practical applications unrelated to language implementation.

The topic and content of the talk were really interesting, although the presentation itself could have used more structure, rehearsal, and trimming out minor details. The detailed visualizations were cool and an interesting technical achievement, but they had so much detail that it became hard to follow. Simpler animations that just demonstrated, step by step, the essentials of how each algorithm worked, would have worked better in the context of the presentation. All that said, the content and knowledge of the speaker shone through, and it was worth staying to the end.

Terrific presentation. The technical material was presented with great clarity and the animations brought a dry topic to life. Ken's depth of technical understanding is impressive and so is his willingness to say "I don't know".
