I said I was coming but it's just too far. I suggested a meetup in the Ann arbor climbing group if anyone wants to go to that Planet Rock location sometime. Sorry I can't make it.

so the first timer's lesson's free then? How critical is it to have climbing shoes? Will hiking shoes w/ good traction work also? & When are the classes? (Should I get there at 6:30 or 7:30 and still get the discount rate if they last an hour?)

You would have to show belaying proficiency to them for a small fee before you could get your card. All gyms do this for liability reasons.

Keya, if this is your first time and you have no personal equipment (harness and shoes - not sure whether they have any rules on using other shoes on the wall), then you would need to get a first time package which is a lesson and rental of all equipment. There may still be a Groupon for that you could get. You will want to get there before 7 for the lesson as that is often the last time they run it for the night. I am travelling today so will only be online one more time in Salt Lake before getting home closer to 11. If you need more info let me know and I can help out more tomorrow.
