Andy Tapaswi: ASP.NET Web API 2

Abstract

Microsoft released ASP.NET Web API 2 in October 2013. It came with many interesting features that make HTTP service development even easier for many client applications. In this discussion, we will start with some of the Web API design principles, when to choose WCF SOAP web services over Web API and how Web API helps you build RESTful applications and then take a deeper look at the new features of the latest version of ASP.NET Web API. Attribute Routing, OAuth, CORS, OData and OWIN are a few to name.

Is there an established place to park for free to attend after work events at One Cambridge Center? I thought I heard once upon a time that there was an MIT lot that was open.

MIT's Hayward lot across Main behind Rebecca's Café is free after 6 p.m. (space permitting of course). Parking in NERD Garage (1 Memorial Drive) is $10 so may be worth the walk to 1 Cambridge Center where it's $30 (IIRC).

I should clarify - NERD garage is $10 AFTER 4p.m.

Just a reminder - we now need to have a photo ID and enter through the Main Microsoft entrance. See you tonight!

Just started ASP.NET MVC and started reading about Web API, and it sound pretty cool. Do you think you will cover this talk in the perspective of an introduction of Web API or only in the context of how Web API 2 is improved over the previous version?

Planning to focus on Web API 2. But I am sure that anyone new in the Web API will not have any difficulty in following. Even in just version 2, it is hard to cover all the new features. That’s why we will target some of the key features – OWIN, CORS, OAuth, OData and some more if time permits. Idea behind these features and demo.

Hey for anyone south of Boston, the South Shore .NET meetup is doing a git/github for .NET event. But it also looks like it may end up being a webinar format. Check it out http://www.meetup.com/South-Sho...

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
