GeoDev Meetup - Santa Monica, CA

We are happily hosting an Esri Dev Meet Up in Santa Monica, CA and hooking up with Geospatial L.A. on Thursday, October 17th for one big meetup. Food and beverages will be provided! (Come a lil' hungry, why don't ya?)

This Dev Meetup is a social gathering for developers to discuss geospatial technologies, complementary third-party tools, and development platforms (e.g., Silverlight, Java, Flex, JavaScript) that are supported by Esri. Presentations run the gamut of our community: from Web development to mobile location development for iOS, Android and Windows Phone 7 to automating tasks with Python.

Developers of all levels of expertise are welcome, from seasoned GIS professionals to those new to geospatial development.

At these meet ups, you can:

Meet cool people. (Duh, we're there.)

Show us what you got by demo'ing your application or framework.

Make a name for yourself in presenting a cool new/interesting concept or idea.

Impress someone by sharing your experiences.

Make BFFs for life - connect with other developers!

Here's what's on the agenda:

5:30 - 6:00 PM Registration and Social (Appetizers and Beverages served - YES!)

6:00 - 6:15 PM Brief Introductions and Welcome from Esri & Geospatial LA

6:15 - 7:00 PM Lightning talks

• Bond Harper, GIS Analyst, Arup - "Integrating with Python Scripts" Python scripting for integrating GIS data with other software.

• Mark Greninger, GIO - LA County, Collaborative Tools for Bike Path Management - LA County will discuss a suite of mapping applications that will enable collaborative updating and display of bike paths in LA County.

• Evan Lue, GIS Lead - WLA Red Cross, Mapping Through the Disaster Cycle - This talk provides a look into the use of geospatial tools by the American Red Cross in response to a local disaster.

• Yao-Yi Chiang, Assistant Professor (Research) - USC Spatial Sciences Institute - Strabo Digital Map Processing - A discussion of Strabo, a solution developed at USC for text recognition in map images that exploits the fact that maps use highly consistent rules for topographic surveys and for labeling to efficiently recognize map labels. Strabo employs an easy-to-use user-training step and a comprehensive post-editing strategy with ArcGIS to ensure the best results which requires only minimal user intervention.

• Shea Broussard - HTML5/JavaScript Viewer, GISi OneView

• Dawn Siegel - Demo of HTML5 app that leverages LGIM or Remix of ArcGIS for local government templates (mashes-up some of the Esri templates).

• Cary Greenwood - Augmented Reality and CityEngine applications

7:00 - 8:00 PM Raffle, Networking and Social. Two great FANTASTIC prizes:

12-month EDN Subscription
DevSummit Registration
