Azure in the wild!

Main Session

Azure is a great platform!  It has revolutionized our clients approach to grid computing, offering up huge computational capacity with no capital investment.  Our product is one of the largest users of Azure Compute in the world and it’s growing.

However, nothing comes for free!  A lot of the things you take for granted on-premise are not available in the cloud.

I will share our experiences of building Software as a Service products solely using what you get out of the box with Platform as a Service, wart’s and all!  We’ll talk about the pros and cons of the cloud and discuss the differences you’ll find from being on premise to being in the cloud.  We’ll talk about how those differences enable you to scale up, big time! I’ll show you Azure storage (Tables, Blobs and Queues), deployments and automation (powershell stuff).  If there’ time I’ll also share my experience about when to use SQL Azure and when not to and show you how we approach event sourcing with table storage.

If the great introduction gave by Richard Conway in April left you wanting to know more, or you’re thinking of developing a cloud app this will hopefully answer some of your questions. If you have any specific questions feel free to ask me before hand I’ll try and cover them off for you.

    Can I state a preference for Light Theme rather than Dark VS Theme for use on the projector? (and some kind of text zooming) for code demos.

      Yep, might be worth confirming these prior to presentation?

    Speaker had excellent knowledge of his subject and was very articulate, but in my opinion tried to cram a little bit too much in and at times left me behind. For example, I wonder what percentage of the audience know what idempotent means and what the implications of it are? I happen to have done work where it is important.

      Given an admittedly small research group (I.e. me) I can confirm that 100% of the audience had an understanding of idempotence and were glad it wasn't a computer science lesson

    Very insightful, and confirmed a lot of the patterns we already employ. Maybe two solutions for the demo next time (;

    I'm really looking forward to talking with you all. For some context, here's a bit of background on our product to save me time talking about the context and more time talking about how you do this in azure…

      Hey Tom, we're looking forward to the talk too. On a side note, do you know what tools/company was used to create the promotional video?
