Met Museum - Lost Kingdoms Hindu-Buddhist Sculpture AGAIN!

Lost Kingdoms: Hindu-Buddhist Sculpture of Early Southeast Asia, 5th to 8th Century

Due to popular again for this event.  Many of our participants could not make it the first time so we are doing this AGAIN!

----------------

What better way enjoy a hot summer afternoon?  Hang out with like minded friends at the Met Museum appreciating ancient Buddhist/Hindu art!  Come join us!

"..first international loan exhibition to explore the sculptural art produced in the earliest kingdoms of Southeast Asia. From the first millennium onward, powerful kingdoms ... embracing much of Indic culture ... Early Hinduism (Brahmanism) and Buddhism arrived early, first witnessed by Sanskrit inscriptions, and shortly thereafter by a proliferation of large-scale religious imagery," Met Museum

There are around 160 sculptures featured from the "lost kingdoms" that were discovered through recent explorations.  Lending institutions include: the National Museums of Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Myanmar (for the first time!), as well as the Musée Guimet, Paris, and major museums in the United States.

You can read more about it on Met's website: http://www.metmuseum.org/exhibitions/listings/2014/lost-kingdoms

We are meeting at the 2nd Fl Gift Shop (Up the main stairs and immediate to the right of the stairs we meet by the info desk and gift shop). Will keep everyone posted if there are any changes to this event.  Look forward to seeing all of you AGAIN!

Some of you have requested information of the monastic at the event. He is Venerable Guo Xing, the abbot of Chan Meditation Center of Queens New York and Dharma Drum Retreat Center of Pinebush Upstate New York. Here is a link to their website. http://chancenter.org/cmc/

Thank you Eddie and Rob. I apologize for not getting to the Museum after Brunch. Our dishwasher malfunctioned and was flooding the kitchen so I had to rush back home. The brunch was great. As always a lovely group of people. I am very fortunate to have had the opportunity to speak with and question
Ven. Guo Xing. He is very clear and precise and helped me to clarify much of what I thought was my understanding and also offered much more to contemplate and remember. His presence is a blessing. Please convey to him my gratitude. I hope these events keep happening. Xie, Xie,
    Zai Jian.
