To me, Twitter is something people fortunate enough not to be isolated in a rural dead-zone, enjoy, and assume everyone else is familiar with. But I am unsure exactly how it is done (writing with your thumbs on cell-phones and posting to the whole world?). If i could twitter, my handle would be Flying Tofu, after the monk Ryokan, who expressed his fondness for tofu because, unlike ducks and geese, it did not have wings to fly-off and leave him hungry. Reading his words, I imagined a block of tofu with wings.
My "Rise, Ye Sea Slugs!" IF I had only not had to translate a novel for money and had time to perfect it. As it is, maybe "Tristam Shandy" or whatever I am writing. Though once a book-scout who helped get scores of books including Gaia (Lovelock) and Periodic Table (Levi) translated into Japanese by explaining to others what made them good, I am not fully satisfied with any books (including mine) but, rather, have favorite parts of many books, I feel are gems, each perfect in their own way. Many aesthetic listings in Seishonagon's Pillow Book, the passage in a Korean Story-teller's Miscellany where he describes a visit to a seance after his grandfather's death where the message from the medium was that he had told them not to believe in such rot about communication from ghosts, Horace on translation from Greek, the hyperbolic insults in Hurston's Mules and Men, etc.. Some of my reviews of books may be found at Librarything.
I am well-published in Japan/ese & author-publisher Paraverse Press in English. Google asked me to digitalize, but caring for my sister on a farm (5 yrs), I missed the boat. Now, in NYC, i hope, w/ your help, to climb aboard & increase my readership.
