JAMMIN JERK HUT - Casual Tuesday Dinner

UPDATE: I paid the place a visit and it is quite small but does have seating for about 20 of us, so I set the RSVP level accordingly. Please know 1,000% that you will FOR SURE be attending about a week before, so that if we do end up with a waiting list those folks who that end up on it will have a chance to attend this groovy event, mon! Thank you!

So I saw a sign for this place the other day and decided we would have to check it out, mon. Now, I haven't been yet, but from what I can tell it is a tiny little place, so be warned that seating may be limited. I will update this a little later, but a Tuesday crowd should be smaller anyways. Also, Tuesday, August 6th is Jamaican Independence Day from Britain so hence this falling mid week.

Since the place is so casual there is no RSVP deposit, but please do so with integrity. I am looking forward to having some great Jerk Chicken and other Jamaican fare, so I hope you will join us!

Here is a Yelp review: "Very comfy and casual establishment.  Friendly service that makes you want to return daily. The food was delicious with hearty portions.  I had the oxtail and jerk chicken dinner plate and it was fantastic!  The oxtails were so tender and seasoned heavily and to perfection.  The jerk chicken was fresh off the grill and reminded me of sandy Caribbean beaches where I have enjoyed mouth watering cuisine like this before.  Washed it all down with a bottle of refreshing Ting. I will certainly be back, and will drag everyone I know along for some good eats. Great job guys!  Thanks for keeping it authentic!"

See you in August to celebrate Jamaican style, mon.

Cheers -

Ok so the service was pretty much non-existent, but the food (what we got ) was tasty... Actually had a good time tho talkin to everybody sittin at our table, even picked up a few members for my pizza group... Told Mom we're goin to have to find a different "jerk" place and really try it out again... Thanx Kelly for the legwork involved in settin this up, never had Jamaican before, didn't even realize the place was back there.....

Man, I hate givin' my own Meetup 4 Stars, but it really was. I gave the owner 6 weeks notice and again 4 days notice and they still weren't ready for us. I did enjoy taking the orders and would have helped more if I could. The food was tasty, but took a while and in a couple cases didn't even make it out. My sincere apologies to those that ended up eating theirs to go or not at all. I would go back, but only in a group of two to four. See you all at the SHINDIG on Labor Day!

Well, this was my first event with this group, and although everything you said was true, Nel and I had a great experience with all of you. Getting out and doing things I would not normally do is exactly what I wanted from this group, and you have shown me that it is always going to be a fun social experience regardless of where we actually go. Good job! :)

Kelly, I truly wish we could have been there. (Well, I do, I'm not so sure Michael would've been patient enough for it!) You tried, you had problems, but that's what's great about your Meetups: you take a chance on an untried vendor/chef who's out there just trying to make a living. We'll try to be at your next one. (PS Christian's taco Tuesday one-time appearance at Naked City Pizza was very good, altho lightly attended while we were there. And the poor guy got stuck there alone, his chef buddy had something else come up, so he was going kinda crazy. Hopefully he'll do a repeat performance there. Particularly liked the goat, octopus and potato taco pairs.)

Good food, great group, amusing setting (very cheap looking as if we really were in a small hole-in-the-wall in Jamaica), but terribly poor service by the staff. We will have a great memory of the experience.

This is also National Root Beer Float Day.

I was thinking of a meet up at BJs since they make their own root beer AND use hard ice cream. Can't stand floats with soft serve.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
