MEXICAN INDEPENDENCE DAY @ FRANK & FINA'S - Monday Dinner

It's Official! I made reservations for Mexican Independence Day at Frank & Fina's for 24 Diners & Viners. This place ranks in my Top 3 Mexican Restaurants in Las Vegas, alongside Leticia's and the Michoacán's gang. They have wonderful food at reasonable prices and the margaritas kick butt too. I have to say that I was a little disappointed that the server exclaimed "That is the busiest day of the year for us. There is no way we can reserve for 24 on that day!" when I asked about reservations on Mexican Independence Day. I went on to explain that is wasn't Cinco de Mayo and that is was on a Monday. She relaxed. Whew!

(We are doing the RSVP deposit thing on this one, but remember you get $10 back upon showing up. I have it at $11 so I can tell the difference between others and cover PayPal fees).

From their website: "Frank & Fina's Cocina is a family-owned-and-operated Mexican restaurant offering large portions of delicious Mexican food and Yucatan cuisine. With more than 14 years of industry experience and a steadfast commitment to superior customer care, we make it easy for your entire family to enjoy a wide range of flavorful meals without breaking your budget. Delicious Mexican Foods of Unsurpassed Quality Featuring an eclectic mix of succulent house specialties and traditional Mexican favorites, our menu is sure to satisfy even the pickiest palate. Using the finest, freshest ingredients and authentic recipes, our chefs create each meal to the highest standards of excellence."

As usual here is a good review and I can vouch that the salsa here is perhaps my favorite in town! "I have searched the US for the perfect chile relleno, & I've been disappointed many times over! Little did I know the most perfect chile relleno was just here in my home town, at Frank & Fina's Cocina! We tried their steak uxtal & chuletas: needless to say our plates were licked clean! Am very picky when it comes to Mexican food, this is the only place I will go to! Prices are reasonable & definitely worth every bite! The staff & atmosphere is friendly, clean...u might even catch a glimpse of the Frank & Fina themselves humbly working in their beloved restaurant! If you are looking for a good authentic delicious Mexican place, come here, u won't regret it!"

See you all for the REAL Mexican Independence Day not the fake one!

Cheers –

Kelly & Davita

The food was amazing and I had a great time. Sorry I didn't get there early enough to ensure a better seating arrangement. Shoot! That would have helped for sure. Finally, thanks for being patient with the final bill and paying your fair share and then some. In the end we had enough for over a 20% tip! You all rock! I'm looking forward to seeing you all again soon. We will have two to three more events before our Holiday event. Hope ALL of you make that one.

I think I will be close to on time. I have an appointment until 6 by Horizon Ridge and the 95, but I can hop on the highway from there.

I am really sorry. I have a nasty cold that won't go away. I don't mind losing my deposit.

    September 15, 2013

    • Kelly T.

It happens. Know anyone to take your place?

      September 15, 2013

  • Rebecca M.

Hi, Kelly. I can tell from reading the emails that some people are still confused about the pre-payment policy. Just to confirm in simple language, you usually charge $11.00, you keep $1.00 for expenses and you return our $10.00 to us at the restaurant before the bill comes so we can use it to pay our share, correct?

Love this restaurant-been there twice before so you all will enjoy it. See you Monday night.

    September 14, 2013

    • Kelly T.

Exactly. The extra $1 covers the PayPal fees. Thanks for asking!

But, most importantly, how is their flan?

OK. Here's the deal. Please ask them if they can do what Leticia's and China Poblano does every year for Mexican Independence Day.

    Offer Chiles en Nogada.

Here's what China Poblano's dish looked like, last year.

    http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g152773-d2459525-r139951518-La_Casona_de_la_China_Poblana-Puebla_Central_Mexico_and_Gulf_Coast.html

(And, yes, we're going there THIS year IF they continue the tradition.)

Normally served only around Christmas time, for some reason these Vegas restaurants are serving them on Mexican Independence Day.

In Los Angeles we could get a version of them year-round at one of our fave mexican restaurants, La Cabanita. But the ones at China Poblano are mind-blowing.

I'm very excited to finally try this restaurant, but if they make Chiles en Nogada, you will be pleased, as will we!

No, Chiles En Nogada this time around. :-(

That's cool. We will get at least 2 CEN's in our tummies over this weekend, the first one was tonight at China Poblano, the Sunday night one is at Leticia's!

Hey everyone! I have confirmed for 24 people at Frank & Fina's. The only thing they mentioned is that they can't do separate checks. So make sure to have a calculator and cash. It has always worked out with this group in the past, I just wanted to give you a heads up.

I know this may be a dumb question; but is the $10 to cover the meal or is it just an admission fee?

    September 10, 2013

    • Kelly T.

Hi Helen, as Skip said it is more of an RSVP charge and you get it back upon arrival. The point is that it stops the "no shows". We don't make exceptions on the RSVP fee (i.e. "I'll pay when I see you"), because that would defeat the purpose. You must find a way to pay prior, but you get it back! So it is like reserving $ for dinner. Pretty cool! Hopefully you can find a way to reserve a spot, because there are only two left. Happy Mex Ind Day and we hope to see you!
