3rd YEAR ANNIVERSARY SHINDIG @ Joanne's Jumpin' Joint

  • August 31, 2014 · 3:00 PM
  • Joanne's Jumpin' Joint

Final Update:

Below is a photo of the BBQ platter we ate from Rolling Smoke tonight. Three different kinds of ribs (literally fell off the bone), rib tips, chicken, pulled pork and chopped brisket. It was all amazing and 30+ lbs of it is coming your way tmrw.! We have rolls from Great Buns Bakery and everything else (ice, water, soda, chairs, tables, etc.) covered for this amazing event.

All we need is you and your fantastic side dish. If you have a cooler or two (large or small) to keep your adult beverages cold, that would be great! Oh, make sure to park appropriately in Joannes' neighborhood, since there isn't much space in front of or next to her house. There is no gate code.

It's going to to be a stellar event and don't forget your raffle prize if you want to participate in that fun. We plan for it to be White Elephant style, except it is unwrapped and you get the gift that matches your raffle number instead of picking the gift. Make sense?

Mike, the Facilitator of Fun has all the other fun & games planned for the door prizes that Joanne was able to acquire for us. I don't even know what they have up their sleeve. Excited!

See you all around 3pm tomorrow. Less than 20 hours!

_____________________________________________

8/29 For Fun - Post a (brief!) interesting or fun fact about yourself here. Maybe... we'll play a game on Sunday and see who knows the most about our fellow members! ;-)

8/29 UPDATE - Remember to BRING AN UNWRAPPED ITEM if you'd like to participate in the raffle pool on Sunday!

Countdown: Less than 48 hours until party-time!

____________________________________________

8/20 UPDATE - RAFFLE option!

EACH OF YOU is encouraged to BRING AN UNWRAPPED ITEM FROM HOME to throw into a pool of raffle items.  It can be something you want to re-gift, or a bottle of wine or spirited beverage, or even a homemade or baked item like a cake, a pie, cookies, jams, jellies...

For each item you bring to donate to the raffle pool, you will receive one raffle ticket for a chance to win one of the prizes.

Countdown:  11 days!

~ This note is from Joanne :-)

8/13 UPDATE: Only a couple weeks now! The planning committee met tonight over Wine, Margaritas and a Scorpion that stung. We have updated the list below and still need a couple things and you can see. Tables, chairs and chaffing dishes are on the way thanks to Phil and Rosie and there will be a DJ and maybe even karaoke compliments of Joanne. Mike said he is bringing a monkey and an accordion. In addition to the actual pool, there is also a pool table, so bring a stick if you have one. RSVP limit increased to 45, but there isn't much room left. See you all soon!

5/10/14 UPDATE: The amazing Joanne Parsons has graciously opened her fantastic home in Henderson to us for this event. The main cross streets are Horizon Ridge & Mission and the exact address will be given to the 'Yes' RSVP's. I plan to have the mains catered by Rollin' Smoke BBQ, so you all just need to bring sides and any adult beverages you want to consume (Of course, we ask that you do so responsibly).

The side dish only needs to be enough for about 8-10 people in general so that we don’t have tons of waste. However, if you know your mom’s potato salad gets devoured, then, by all means bring enough for 36! Oh, and since we are a foodie group it would be great to see your cooking skills, but if you must do store bought we won’t hold it against you. OK, we might just a little. ;-)

Make sure to indicate in your RSVP, your desired main course selection (Brisket, Pulled Pork, Hot Links, Ribs Chicken OR a little of each.) and the side you’ll bring with you. Look, we all love chips and salsa, but we don’t want to get 15 bags and jars. Sides we will need are salads, snacking fare (i.e. cheese and crackers), traditional sides (i.e. macaroni salad) and some original ones too (i.e. curried couscous with mint and raisins). There will be a need for dessert as well, just not a dozen batches of Costco brownies!

I am setting the RSVP cost a little higher than in the past in order to step up the food (i.e. catered by Rollin' Smoke BBQ) and we'll have plenty of door prizes and fun and games too. If you want to be the head Facilitator of Fun (FOF) please let us know! As usual, we’ll also pick up water, juices and soda and all the other accouterments, like plates, napkins, etc.

We will also be in need of a couple extra coolers, along with ice, to keep those beverages cold, so if you have a good size one please let us know. Most importantly, bring your own folding chair(s) or other seating opportunity, because we will run out of seats for sure if you don’t! On a final note, Joanne has a pool so if you are feeling the need to jump in, go right ahead, just please have a swimsuit on. :-) Remember, this is a party for us adults in Dining & Vining, so leave the children and pets at home.

Thanks Dining & Vining, it has been a great third year and the next one is going to be even better. Let’s kick it off in style on August 31st at 3pm.

Cheers -

Kelly & Davita

Absolutely amazing! A huge thanks to Joanne, Mike, Andrea, Desi and Riley for hosting and facilitating the fun. Props to Phil & Rosie for the chafing dish use too. Of course it wouldn't be as amazing without all the wonderful people. Looking forward to Year 4!

Kelly, know the owners of Frijoles on W. Charleston between Rainbow and Tenaya-it was a Pizza Hut for years-very inexpensive good tasting food-would be fun for a Saturday lunch.

    • Dawn B.

Yes yes yes I'll show you my 3rd nipple

      August 31

  • Richard C.

Kelly, thanks for your inquiry. I started as a new teacher at Durango this week and worked so much that I got myself sick. Added to that, I did not realize that Nel had a 30-year Drum and Bugle Corps reunion this weekend in California, so everything just seemed to unravel. Even if I get healthy I don't think I have enough in me to prepare food and do all this myself, so I thought it would be best to cancel. I'm sorry...

    1 · August 29

    • Kelly T.

No worries Richard. I came down with something over the week, but it is gone now! We will party a little extra hard you you and Nel. Get well man and if you do, you are always welcome. We have plenty of sides. Cheers!

      August 30

  • Dawn B.

Is there such a thing as underwater pool? Floating pool sticks?

    1 · August 29

  • Kelly T.

Hey Mike - How is the search for the accordion playing monkey going? I know a lot of people are excited about that! If you can't find one, small clowns with kazoos is always fun. Just a thought.

    3 · August 28

    • Kelly T.

Can THEY "stay tuned"? Yes, we need to know that. Soon. Also, can they swim? I think that is the 2nd most important question.

      August 28

    • Paul M.

Yes, because they need to play from on top of the pool table that will be in the pool!

      August 28

  • LaLa ?.

I'm sorry to change, but I'd like to bring a Lemon Whiskey Cake instead of the spinach dip. Hope that's ok. :)

    2 · August 27

    • Kelly T.

Spinach or Whiskey. Yeah tough one. :-)

      August 28

    • Jessica K

Desserts should always win in a toss up.

      4 · August 28

  • Diane A.

And on top of the pool table which will be in the pool, five people will take the ALS ice bucket challenge.

    4 · August 25

    • Dawn B.

I think we have a prescendence

      1 · August 28

    • Kelly T.

What will take precedence over the other thing is the ultimate question! Perhaps the monkeys or clowns can cross over to the craps dealers for Wendell. He would like that I think! The USGBC Ice Bucket Juggling contest is another high ranking game in the minds of many. See how hard precedence will be?

      August 28

  • Kelly T.

Ah, change. It truly is the only constant in life. :-)

    2 · August 28

  • Tony c.

I'm a newbie at this - any suggestions with respect to the veggie platter I am bringing? I notice Vicki is bringing veggies and humus - I can switch to anything needed - suggestions?

    1 · August 26

    • Kelly T.

      Yum! So like a bruschetta?

      August 27

    • Vickie

Yep, my version: tomatoes sliced vs chopped

      August 28

  • John & M.

We will bring a cold shrimp platter.

    2 · August 27

  • Kelly T.

Ya'll need to stop 'pooling' around. Someone is going to get in over their head on these jokes. :-)

    1 · August 27

    • Paul M.

How deep is the pool? It needs to be pretty deep for all this stuff going in.

      1 · August 27

    • Kelly T.

No worries, it is Greg Louganis deep.

      August 27

I am bringing my award winning (it won 1st place, twice lol) pico de gallo and chips, as well as a home made verde salsa. Changing my "offerings" because of the amount of people attending. Can't make 100 bacon wrapped dates! Everyone wants at least two. The salsa's are awesome as well.

    3 · August 26

    • Kelly T.

This will go well with the Guacamole Kristin is making. May want to coordinate the chips with her so there isn't 10 bags! :-)

      August 27

  • Phil U.

    Yeah, those ones Dawn

    1 · August 27

  • Phil U.

It is my outer cheek :)

    1 · August 27

    • Dawn B.

What cheeks are we talking about????

      August 27

  • Paul M.

So now I'm really confused. Do we throw Kelly into the pool or the pool table that evening? Do we use the stick to jab him trying to get out of the pool or off the pool table?

    3 · August 14

    • Paul M.

Totally confusing! I guess the raffle drawing will be in the swimming pool on top of the pool table that is also in the swimming pool.

      2 · August 25

    • Diane A.

Does Kelly float? Does he have a doctors note like Phil?

      2 · August 26

  • Diane A.

We lock Joanne in the closet for a while. Everything goes into the pool. No problem.

    1 · August 26

  • Diane A.

    BRING LIFE JACKETS

    1 · August 25

    • Dawn B.

I can swim above and and below water as long as I'm not being held under water

      2 · August 26

  • Diane A.

all gifts must float too. Oy.

    August 25

  • Kelly T.

It looks like Tony has the Veggie Platter covered and Kristin is bringing Guac and Chips. Perfect! Only standard fare left is the Cheese and Fruit platter. I nominate Paul!

    August 17

    • Paul M.

Okay - we will bring the cheese platter then!

      2 · August 25

    • Diane A.

on a floating plastic plate. and don't forget to bring those plastic flowers for decor.
