Below is a photo of the BBQ platter we ate from Rolling Smoke tonight. Three different kinds of ribs (literally fell off the bone), rib tips, chicken, pulled pork and chopped brisket. It was all amazing and 30+ lbs of it is coming your way tmrw.! We have rolls from Great Buns Bakery and everything else (ice, water, soda, chairs, tables, etc.) covered for this amazing event.
All we need is you and your fantastic side dish. If you have a cooler or two (large or small) to keep your adult beverages cold, that would be great! Oh, make sure to park appropriately in Joannes' neighborhood, since there isn't much space in front of or next to her house. There is no gate code.
It's going to to be a stellar event and don't forget your raffle prize if you want to participate in that fun. We plan for it to be White Elephant style, except it is unwrapped and you get the gift that matches your raffle number instead of picking the gift. Make sense?
Mike, the Facilitator of Fun has all the other fun & games planned for the door prizes that Joanne was able to acquire for us. I don't even know what they have up their sleeve. Excited!
See you all around 3pm tomorrow. Less than 20 hours!
8/29 For Fun - Post a (brief!) interesting or fun fact about yourself here. Maybe... we'll play a game on Sunday and see who knows the most about our fellow members! ;-)
8/29 UPDATE - Remember to BRING AN UNWRAPPED ITEM if you'd like to participate in the raffle pool on Sunday!
Countdown: Less than 48 hours until party-time!
8/20 UPDATE - RAFFLE option!
EACH OF YOU is encouraged to BRING AN UNWRAPPED ITEM FROM HOME to throw into a pool of raffle items. It can be something you want to re-gift, or a bottle of wine or spirited beverage, or even a homemade or baked item like a cake, a pie, cookies, jams, jellies...
For each item you bring to donate to the raffle pool, you will receive one raffle ticket for a chance to win one of the prizes.
Countdown: 11 days!
~ This note is from Joanne :-)
8/13 UPDATE: Only a couple weeks now! The planning committee met tonight over Wine, Margaritas and a Scorpion that stung. We have updated the list below and still need a couple things and you can see. Tables, chairs and chaffing dishes are on the way thanks to Phil and Rosie and there will be a DJ and maybe even karaoke compliments of Joanne. Mike said he is bringing a monkey and an accordion. In addition to the actual pool, there is also a pool table, so bring a stick if you have one. RSVP limit increased to 45, but there isn't much room left. See you all soon!
7/27 UPDATE: We are just 5 weeks away from the Anniversary Event at Joanne’s and it is shaping up VERY nicely. Here is where we are today on sides and such. If you are still TBD, no worries, just let us know about a week in advance or so. Cheers!

5/10/14 UPDATE: The amazing Joanne Parsons has graciously opened her fantastic home in Henderson to us for this event. The main cross streets are Horizon Ridge & Mission and the exact address will be given to the 'Yes' RSVP's. I plan to have the mains catered by Rollin' Smoke BBQ, so you all just need to bring sides and any adult beverages you want to consume (Of course, we ask that you do so responsibly).
The side dish only needs to be enough for about 8-10 people in general so that we don’t have tons of waste. However, if you know your mom’s potato salad gets devoured, then, by all means bring enough for 36! Oh, and since we are a foodie group it would be great to see your cooking skills, but if you must do store bought we won’t hold it against you. OK, we might just a little. ;-)
Make sure to indicate in your RSVP, your desired main course selection (Brisket, Pulled Pork, Hot Links, Ribs Chicken OR a little of each.) and the side you’ll bring with you. Look, we all love chips and salsa, but we don’t want to get 15 bags and jars. Sides we will need are salads, snacking fare (i.e. cheese and crackers), traditional sides (i.e. macaroni salad) and some original ones too (i.e. curried couscous with mint and raisins). There will be a need for dessert as well, just not a dozen batches of Costco brownies!
I am setting the RSVP cost a little higher than in the past in order to step up the food (i.e. catered by Rollin' Smoke BBQ) and we'll have plenty of door prizes and fun and games too. If you want to be the head Facilitator of Fun (FOF) please let us know! As usual, we’ll also pick up water, juices and soda and all the other accouterments, like plates, napkins, etc.
We will also be in need of a couple extra coolers, along with ice, to keep those beverages cold, so if you have a good size one please let us know. Most importantly, bring your own folding chair(s) or other seating opportunity, because we will run out of seats for sure if you don’t! On a final note, Joanne has a pool so if you are feeling the need to jump in, go right ahead, just please have a swimsuit on. :-) Remember, this is a party for us adults in Dining & Vining, so leave the children and pets at home.
Thanks Dining & Vining, it has been a great third year and the next one is going to be even better. Let’s kick it off in style on August 31st at 3pm.
