I realize most of you may find this too expensive - or too many dining out events in one week, but I just signed up and wanted to let you all know about it in case you want to join me. There are only 15 tickets left, so if you want to do this you will need to act quickly. Tickets are $85.39 with tax. Purchase your ticket at the NEO Food Tours website.
Celebrate the first Little Italy Art Walk of 2011 (June 3-5) with NEO Food Tours as they kick things off early with a unique neighborhood excursion on June 1st. This is the next stop in Northeast Ohio’s series of premier walking restaurant tours and will meet at 6:30 pm at La Dolce Vita Bistro (12112 Mayfield Road).
Terry Tarantino, Owner of La Dolce Vita, will guide the Little Italy food tour through the historic neighborhood as guests learn about Little Italy’s unique characteristics from one of its most passionate advocates.
Tarantino is excited for attendees to see the “face lift” that Little Italy has received over the years. “It started about 20 years ago,” said Tarantino. “Restaurants, galleries and buildings of Little Italy got a brand new façade. Renovations occurred structurally and internally, yet we’ve been able to hold on to the values that were instilled at the turn of the century.”
An example of Little Italy’s culinary history that Tarantino points to is Presti’s, a local bakery that has supplied many of the neighborhood’s restaurants for over 60 years. “Presti’s is really one of the anchors of the neighborhood,” Tarantino shared. “Bread is an Italian staple and it symbolizes life in a lot of cultures.” The bread holds families together, just as the restaurants in Cleveland hold the neighborhoods together.
In addition to Tarantino’s restaurant, the June 1st culinary adventure includes stops at Murray Hill Market, Michaelangelo’s and Trattoria on the Hill. An intimate, progressive course dinner will unfold – starting with an appetizer at the first restaurant and concluding at the last stop with a sweet and savory dessert.
At each restaurant, the small group of guests sits for approximately 20 minutes, talks with the chef or owner about what inspires their culinary creations, and enjoys a small “off-menu” plate paired with a specially made beverage to complement the food’s flavors.
NEO Food Tours’ Little Italy trip comes on the heels of their sold-out debut in Ohio City. Starting June 22nd, departures will take place on the third Wednesday of each month at 6:30 pm.
