A Dinner Party Debate Christmas Carol!

Oh no - it looks like our group may have taken the festivities a bit too far this year and gotten itself into some truly outlandish legal troubles this holiday season! :o)  In the interest of our collective redemption, however, we will be visited by the ghosts of Christmas past, present and future and learn what our fate would be if we were to commit the very same acts in an era when the laws were (or likely will be) quite different from what they are today. In a truly civilized society the law is meant to be the instrument through which justice is meted out and, as we become progressively more enlightened as a people, it makes sense that the laws will change accordingly. But are we really more morally advanced than we used to be or have we remained stagnant, or even gone backwards? Will we ever achieve a perfect moral vision and impeccable laws that reflect it? Moreover, does there actually exist one true morality, perhaps unknowable but nonetheless unchanging, or can what is moral change with time?  As always, guests may participate to whatever extent they wish. Let's try to figure it all out as we reunite in celebration of the holidays with a Dinner Party Debate Christmas Carol!    :o)

This event will not only be a debate but also a holiday party complete with a "stocking stuffer" grab bag (optional) and plenty of delicious holiday treats! Those who wish to participate in the grab bag should bring a small and inexpensive wrapped gift that would be suitable for either a male or female guest (valued between $2 and $5). We have once again reserved our lovely room at Seasons 52 in Altamonte Springs (adjacent to the Altamonte Mall). We will meet in the lobby of the restaurant at 3:45 and our group will be seated promptly! :o) The seating that the restaurant is providing us with is at a premium, so please keep your RSVP's current and only reserve a place if you truly believe that you will be able to attend! As usual, I will be asking everybody with a "yes" RSVP to provide a contact number and I will be calling everyone on the list a day or so before the debate in order to confirm attendance. If I am ultimately unable to reach someone then his or her RSVP will be changed to a "no" and, if there is a waiting list, the open seat will be given to the first person on the list to accept the computer-generated email invitation. Also, please be aware that, because our room will be booked for another event immediately after ours, it is extremely important that we begin the debate on time! Come join us for dinner, some thoughtful conversation, and plenty of holiday cheer! :o) -Christine

We would love to attend but unfortunately we will be spending the holiday season - from the 17th in the North Carolina mountains, hopefully playing in the snow. We wish you all a happy and healthy holiday.
