Guided Walks Greater Sarasota will concentrate on guided historical walks as well as guided scenic & nature walks. This group is not an exercise group, although some of the distances may reach three miles in length (or more) and the time for the walks may be up to three hours (or more), but a social walking group. We stop to smell the roses.
The group welcomes those, new to the area or not, who want to learn more about Sarasota and Manatee counties, their histories (Palmer, Burns, Ringling, Gillespie, Edwards, Caples, DeSoto, and more), flora and fauna (state parks, county preserves, beaches and parks). Look at the planned walks and see if they appeal to you. Most of the planned walks have been given to a private group and now are offered to you.
Most of the walks will have the option of stopping by a local eatery to continue socializing.
The cost is free with the exception of the occasional entrance/activity fee (ex. state parks & Historical Spanish Point).
The group also welcomes those that would like to be guides for some of our walks.
This is not a dating group and those seeking that should join the singles dating meetups. I reserve the right to ban any who may demonstrate unbecoming behavior.
Both Sarasota and Manatee counties may allow their staff (naturalists and historians) to guide some of these walks. Both also have their own programs to promote the area. The state may also provide state rangers to guide us through their parks.
I welcome your input.
***June-September is reserved for beach walks (because of the heat/humidity)***
P.S. Go to the Files section under More to download trip reports. These are typical of most of the walks.
PS2. I put Retirees in the search criteria. This group is open to everyone but retirees may be able to take advantage of the weekday outings where others may only be able to go on the weekend. BTW-I am retired also, that is why I can coordinate and sometimes lead this group.
