I posted this back in March, but am reposting it for those that didn't notice. The city has a walking tour. You can pick up a map at the Riverfront Community Center at 123 S. Esplanade St. It takes about an hour. The High Noon Saloon is a good restaurant in a 1900's building. The public is welcome on the base. You MUST have ID to get in, so make sure and bring your driver's license.

Take the far right lane to get into the base, then turn right to 100 Reynolds. It is easy to miss. The hours are 10-4 on Saturday. I believe it is free, but you might want to take money for a donation.

You can pick up a map of the driving tour in the museum. The base is the oldest operating Army base west of the Mississippi, established in 1827. Some of the homes date back to the 1840's and are still lived in. Allow 1 1/2 to 2 hours for the base tours. The base is really beautiful with tons of history.

My FAVORITE PLACE IN ALL OF KC!

PS. Late summer is not a good time to do a tour, since it is so hot. Fall is beautiful there with the foliage.
