Divorce is very hard - it's hard when you are the one who wants it; it's hard when you are the one who doesn't want it. It's hard when your kids are little; it's hard when your kids are big. And it's hard when times are good - but it's particularly hard in times of economic uncertainty.
What is a skillful divorce, and how is it achieved? Members of the Collaborative Council of the Redwood Empire (CCRE), a group of attorneys, financial professionals, and mental health professionals provide a panel presentation on Divorce Options at the Collaborative Practice Center at 829 Sonoma Avenue in Santa Rosa each month.
Divorce Options explains the legal, financial, family, and personal issues of divorce in a logical, yet compassionate way. With the guidance of a team of legal, financial, and mental health professionals, workshop participants gain a greater understanding of the confusing and overwhelming divorce process options. Divorce Options provides explanations of the differences between self representation, mediation, Collaborative divorce, and litigated divorce. Issues of timing, legal fees, child custody, child/spousal support, and property are also discussed. A divorce financial specialist covers many of the financial issues that are present in most divorces. Topics include gathering financial information, dividing property, real estate issues, and tax consequences of divorce. A mental health professional discusses the emotional aspects of divorce, the impact of divorce on children, and how to tell children about the divorce. Divorce Options is a workshop designed to help you take the next step, no matter where you are in the process. The Divorce Options program is a safe space to ask professionals about the different ways people can choose to get divorced. Come with your questions! This is typically a small group, so you'll have plenty of time to get your questions answered.
The workshops are once a month, on the second Saturday of the month. The workshop starts at 9:00 am and usually goes to about 12:00 - 12:30 pm depending on the number of questions from the participants. After attending Divorce Options, participants have commented that they feel empowered to make a more informed decision regarding their divorce process choice. The cost for the workshop is only $45.00. You can also purchase a discounted ticket in advance on EventBrite at: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/divorce-options-what-you-need... Location: Collaborative Practice Center at 829 Sonoma Avenue, Santa Rosa, CA 95404.
This is a unique opportunity for the public to learn about resources from which they can draw to plan a skillful and effective transition that honors the needs and interests of all family members. The workshop will be particularly useful to anyone thinking about divorce or other relational transitions including LGBT couples looking for a process that is sensitive to their unique needs and for those who advise and help people through the divorce/transition process.
CCRE is a group of professionals interested in avoiding court battles and power struggles to resolve conflicts. The group consists of family, probate and civil attorneys, mental health professionals, financial professionals, and other professionals.
