I want home equity; my spouse wants to keep the house. Can we both be satisfied?

When there is real property involved in a divorce, sometimes it must be sold and the equity divided.  Other times, the physical custody parent would like to keep the home.

There may be options available to you that can make it work in both parties’ favor; the spouse who wants equity is protected, while the spouse who wants to stay in the house can too!  Michal Koncar will be our guest speaker at next week’s meetup.  She can explain what needs to happen for one of the parties to be “refinanced off” the current loan.

Michal says that those she sees post-divorce could have done better if they come to her ant taken care of things beforehand.

Michal herself has been divorced (and it was a horrible experience); so she has great empathy and a connection with the subject.

I'm teaching Monday nights, but this is an important issue for me! My soon-to-be-ex has been avoiding employment and so will not qualify to refinance; but wants to keep the house (classic wanting his cake, etc., etc.!) - The only solutions seem to be 1) forcing him to sell or 2) taking over possession of the house myself. What else can be done??

If litigant uses various "unbundled services" of an attorney..., are they still Pro Se?

It depends on what services the litigant uses.

Eric, perhaps make available an mp3 of the hour. Those that can't make it can at least listen. You can place the mp3 audio file right here, I think, in the files section. The handouts, too.

The point of the meetups is to meet. If I make recordings available, I worry that incentive to meet as a group goes way down.

I can't attend, but would like to listen on-line. Can someone who has done that please tell me how to do it?

I want to attend. I'm without transportation due to my truck being totaled and complications with the insurance company. Getting there is easy. Getting back home that that time of night is not. Can someone take me to TRAX after the meeting?
