Really it's not that there's anything inherently wrong with Django, it's just that it doesn't fit our problem very well.

You could certainly shoe-horn our application into Django, but it would come back to haunt us later as we have some very specific integration and data needs.

For a large number of applications, Django is a great way to start.

Can I ask the reasons you are not using Django?

I am looking into Django (as a hobby) and interested in how it stacks up against Magento and other platforms.

Would much appreciate the response.

Hey Everyone,

AcademicMerit is an EdTech startup based in Portland. We are implementing some great tools for teachers, students and administrators using Python. We aren't going to be using Django for various reasons, but we are definitely using Python.

I'm definitely interested in talking to refugees from the .Net, Java and PHP world. If you've been stuck playing with Django and Python as a hobby on the side and want to finally make it your work-a-day solution, submit your resume. Your knowledge of MySQL, Postgres, Linux and cloud-based web applications is of equal value and interest to your experience and desire to work with Python.

If you or somebody you know would be interested, please check out our careers site: http://www.academicmerit.com/careers.

We are also looking for some rock-solid JavaScript / HTML5 people. If you or somebody you know is experienced with Backbone.js, Ember.js or similar, send this information along to them.

If you don't live *in* Portland, no problem. We can be flexible about remote work, but are most interested in finding locals or people who can occasionally spend time in the office for design sessions. I work from home about 4 days a week. The only thing I can't do right now is sponsor visas.

Thanks,

Sam Wilson
