Yes, I prefer to play rhythms for which the djembe was created.
There is nothing like a complete polyrhythm with the foundation of three dununs each with it's own bell part. I am also interested in "ballet style" dunun drumming where one person plays all three dununs, especially while participating in drum circles or performances.
The energy of a drum circle feels like it sends ripples into the Universe; positive, healing vibrations! Why else take classes but to be involved in group drumming? It is fun to be part of such group events; new-comers and spectators usually walk away with smiles...
7th year student of the djembe; currently studying in weekly class with Russ Anderson [Milwaukee] West African rhythms. Am engaged to be married this year to my first djembe teacher Cherylann Kelly. Drum On!!
