6:30 pm Networking
7:00-9:00 pm Screening and Discussion with the Filmmaker
In the midst of the war in Iraq, ordinary citizens reveal their hopes and dreams for their families and their country. Filmmaker Jeffrey Kramer originally went to neighboring Jordan to film a story about Iraqi police cadets in training. When he got temporarily thrown off the training base, he discovered that there were many other Iraqis who had fled the country and were trying to live as normal a life as possible. The film screened as part of the Docs In Progress work-in-progress program in Washington DC in July 2007. Kramer completed the documentary later that year. It aired in 2008 on The Documentary Channel and won a regional Emmy in 2009.
This is a free screening, supported in part by grants from the Maryland State Arts Council and Arts and Humanities Council of Montgomery County. Donations are always welcome. No advance registration is required, but seating is on a first come-first serve basis.
