2013 is the 50th Anniversary of Doctor Who and this month we'll be celebrating the Fifth Doctor, Peter Davison! Come decked out in your Whovian finery and join us!

This is a private meeting for our members, but feel free to bring your friends.  The more, the merrier!

This Meetup will be the week after Comicpalooza in Houston, where Peter Davison and Frazier Heins (Companion Jamie McCrimmon) will both be guests.  Look for more details on Compicpalooza to be posted to the Meetup as well.

Had a car accident, still feeling a bit exhausted. Sure wish I had a TARDIS to take me to work!

Thanks guys! While I didn't have Jelly Babies, I did watch BBCA's fifth Doctor special, so I was there in spirit :)

I like the idea of a food drive. Let me see what we can do in September. How about a blood drive in October?

I cant give blood because of Fibromyalgia and possible RA but we can set a few hrs aside so i watch kids of others who blood donate.

What do you all think about this, maybe for a Wednesday night during the summer, in addition to our regularly scheduled meeting?

This is done by some of the guys behind the original MST3K.

I recently got the riff for that, and on a 1-10 scale of rifftrax quality, it's about a solid 5 on the funny scale. Worthwhile still :D

What about our tentative Sherlock night? :)

I want to thank everyone for a great turnout for our Fifth Doctor Appreciation Night. It was wonderful to see everyone and get a chance to talk to you all. Thanks again to all who were able to donate this month to keep us going. As I said before, I'd still do this anyway, but it really helps. You were all very generous and I'm humbled and grateful. I'll confirm with the Rialto this week for June and see if we can't schedule July as well and post it as soon as I hear from them. As always, comments, issues, suggestions- all are welcome and encouraged. Otherwise, you're stuck with whatever strikes my fancy....

What about we all bring a canned good to donate to a food shelter? 100 plus bringing food to help others would b great. Not required but suggested. Could get Rialto in on same day fundraiser. Great advertisement for group and Rialto theater.

Just a heads up... the burgers me and my buddy ate last night made us both sick. Me more than him. Not sure if it was a fluke or what, but considering we both had identical meals, the culprit is pretty clear.

      May 30, 2013

  • Kahnnie

    It was a great time.

Holmes is my least favorite Doctor, probably because I didn't see too many of his. But that was a cool episode. The doctor using a gun, eek! And on a Delek, and Davros taunting him to kill.against his nature. In retrospect of the new series, that was all *serious* foreshadowing (several Doctors later, of course). Oh, and lots of Shaving Cream. Awesome! Thanks Guys!

    May 30, 2013

  • Cory R.

It was amazing as always! You can not ever go wrong with a Dalek episode (i am so very biased though since Daleks are my FAVourite villain) It made me tear a bit see Tennent and Davison in that Doctor special on the preshow...Peter really gave the Doctor in his time on the show quite a bite of serious business, very reflective of the years he was there...just a thought...Had a blast and looking forward to the next!!! Thank you!!!

I love love the fact that this venue is so close and the theater was pretty nice as well.

Ok thanks. Looking forward to it.

      May 29, 2013

Eric- I'm here already, getting set up for tonight. Go in the theatre and bypass the ticket booth. Look for the red Dalek and you'll know you're in the right place.

I'm planning on being there around 7pm since its my first going to one of these. Just keep an eye open for the guy that's totally lost. That would be me.

    May 29, 2013

  • Tamara

I'll probably be there about 6:30 to set up. If last time is any indication, 7:00-7:15 should be good. The theatre seats more than 200 and we have a little more than a hundred signed up. Hope this helps!

    May 29, 2013

  • Stuart

I'm a first time attendee. What time should I arrive at the theater to make sure I get a good seat?

    May 29, 2013

  • Tamara

Bring 'em on! It's never too early to begin your Whovian indoctrination. My eight-year-old hasn't missed a night since we've been attending. All we ask is that if your little ones get fussy that you take them to the lobby until they can come back. Hope to see you there tomorrow. I'll be the ginger in the Eleven Doctors t-shirt and Converse trainers.

Fine, a Zebra with a Unicorn Horn. And It's a Radioactive Horn. Oh NO! This has the potential to degrade into sumotherverse I never intended! PokeMan!

Wait a minute- you're makings the TARDIS something biological? That has the potential to be very dangerous, especially if I get to choose...

Eh, don't diss yourself bro, that's what its all about, it's pretty empowering to learn how to manifest you ideas. I started as an Idea Guy, and I am still learning how to make stuff. Check out Hack a day to learn how to do crazy cool stuff. I am Happy We Whovians are at least building time machines and sonic screwdrivers instead of blasters, and phasers. Oh No! I sound like I would have fit in here:

The main and most rewarding challenge of building it was how to keep it screen accurate and portable. As it stands a single person could assemble the whole thing in about 20 min. Can't wait for it to be done!

Looking Really Good. So this makes you, like, the Scotty of the Whoniverse, right?

This seems like a good time to share, if you are a more Maker Type, I went to an event here yesterday

    http://www.10bitworks.com/

Which is an open geek workspace, like a low budget Geekdom, but honestly cooler, and more assessable, super nerds (both sexes, thank you, and all ages). Everyone just does their thing and helps everyone else. So come check it out my fellow hacking Whovians.

I think a "Working" Sonic Screwdriver would be a fun Project!

Oh no, I'm the idea man. I lack the skills do to all of that. I've had a lot of help. My folks just sort of threw themselves into the project. It wouldn't be nearly as far along without them. Not that I couldn't have done it, I just wanted it to look as close as possible to the screen version as we could get it. here is where we're at now.

The guys at 10bit are great. I'm heading out there soon to get some advice on wiring up a costume for sounds and lights using LEDs and fiber optics. If anyone has any expertise they'd like to share, I'd be glad of the information.

And this is a torrent link to a Doctor Who spoof from Comic Relief 1999 written by Steven Moffat. It has Rowan Atkinson (Mr. Bean/Black Adder) and Hugh Grant as "Doctors":
