MEMO from General Manager Karen Howl of the San Francisco 49ers (5-time Super Bowl Champs)
Subject: Rover Training Camp
Date: Saturday Oct 12, 2013
Time: 10am - 12noon
On behalf of Head Coach John Harbark and Defensive Coordinator Greg Roam, I'd like to welcome you, our future WR's Anquan Bones and Quinton Panting, future TE Vernon Dachshund, and future RB Frank Golden Retriever to our roster.
We huddle promptly at 10am at the Font Blvd entrance of SF State Campus. There will be a two minute warning for latecomers. (Don't make any rookie mistakes - just rush the route and roll out of your doggie bed.) Then onward to start the tour of our training camp facility. First we'll warm up on this off-leash easy walk by pounding the pavement grounds. Take in the handsome well manicured lawns (no artificial turf here - this is true football stomping grounds) and various sizes of gardens with tended and well-cared for herbs, perennials and annuals. Enjoy the gardens grounds with the trees and benches while you can. There are lots of trees located in the center of the campus. We can linger here while the rovers sniff out the lawns and trees looking for new scents and trying to find a whiff of any squirrels that may be "quarter-back-sneaking" nearby.
Next we'll hit the track for the moderate portion of the walk where the K9's will carry out drills such as 40-yd dash, 20-yd sniff, high jump, 3 bone drill and long jump. Additionally we'll work on agility, paw & eye coordination, obstacles, dog-to-dog-coverage and sprinting. Further training assignments will require the assistance of our star QB Colin Kaeperlick where he will show off perfect spiral bombs for the pooches to catch & retrieve and practice fair catch-ing.
Remember to stay in bounds and between the lines on the track. And most important, get used to running and catching in the end zone for touchdowns. We need to work hard every day to keep our eye on the prize: We're going for the Vince Labradori Trophy for the Super Bowl Champs. Make us proud Team 49ers!
Warning: I will NOT tolerate unnecessary roughness, unsportsmanlike conduct or any cheap shots. You will be given excessive timeouts.
In non-football lingo, I'm keeping the group small so our fetchers can roam off-leash freely. This is an easy walk with a great chance to see for yourself that SF State is a really nice campus. I always love to see what's in bloom. We can keep this walk easy with the option of hitting the track to kick it up a notch into moderate by climbing up and down the bleacher stairs as one option for both humans and K9's. Restrooms and water faucets are located by the track. Parking available along Font Blvd & surrounding streets. Remember water & snacks as needed for yourself and your pup and cleanup bags. Any questions leave a comment or email Karen H.
This post is dedicated to J, A and J who are avid die-hard football fans - for sharing your love of football with me.
