***Cross Posting with Tri-Valley Active Dogs Meetup*** This is a hosted event by Trisha
Let’s get together and start shedding those lbs. we gained during the Thanksgiving and Christmas season. That way we can start the New Year off right. I'm sure our BFF's won't mind getting out and exploring.
Pleasanton Ridge is a beautiful 5,271-acre parkland on the oak-covered ridge overlooking Pleasanton and the Livermore Valley from the west. It is planned as the core of a Ridgelands Regional Park to be acquired over a period of many years. Parkland development has been intentionally limited to preserve the pastoral atmosphere. The park occupies Pleasanton Ridge and beyond. To the northwest it spills down off Pleasanton Ridge into upper Kilkare Canyon, where it continues up onto Sunol Ridge, finally terminating at its westernmost corner in Stoneybrook Canyon. Inside the park we can choose from several different trails. Trails range from easy 3-4 miles to a moderate 7miles. We'll make that decision together at the start of the trails. From the main staging area on Foothill Road you can follow a multi-purpose trail system, which accommodates hikers, equestrians, and bicyclists, provides canyon views and ridgetop vistas, and access to remote, deep-canyon streams.
Mornings can be cold so dress accordingly. A sweater or jacket that you can pack away in your backpack or around your waist would be idealistic. Bring plenty of water for you and your pup since it's unsure how long of a hike we will be on. Poop bags are a MUST. This is an off leash trail but as always, your doggie doesn't have to be off leash. Just as well, if your 4 legged companion isn't on voice commands, a leash is a must. At this park we may run into other animals (cows, sheep, turkeys, ect) grazing on the land. I've never been to this park so if you have, please bring your trail suggestions along with you.
