Mosaic Staircase Puppy Crawl

Here is my take on the "bar crawls" I've seen on Meetup. But my version involves our K9's where we visit 2 staircases in the Inner Sunset District. These aren't your plain, run-of-the-mill staircases. These are beautiful works of art staircases depicting various flora and fauna.

This walk is marked as easy to moderate due to the many steps we'll climb up and down each staircase. This is mainly on-leash due to street traffic. The meeting spot is 16th Ave and Moraga St, at the bottom of staircase # 1. Here's a pic:

But we'll climb these steps later. After a 15 min meet and greet, we'll walk about 1/4 mile along 16th Ave to arrive at staircase # 2, located on 16th Ave between Kirkham St and Lawton St.

By the way, this staircase has 148 steps. When we reach this destination, we'll be at the top of the staircase, at 16th Ave and Lawton St. Unfortunately from the top, we can't see the mosaics so we'll have to climb down. Along the way down (or up), we can take lots of pauses as necessary to admire the artwork, read some of the tiles dedicated to loved ones, take pics - perhaps single and group shots with our pups.

We'll have to climb up the steps to help us get back to staircase # 1. I found taking the steps seemed quicker vs walking around the block (say if you wanted to avoid taking the stairs...) When we arrive at staircase # 1, we'll climb 163 steps to get to the top. Again, we can take breaks along the way to admire the art and take more pics. At the top of the staircase, we'll cross the street to climb a flight of 28 concrete/asphalt steps. Then cross another street to climb an additional 144 count of wooden steps to reach the top of Grand View Park. At the top, we'll be rewarded with fantastic 360 degree views of the city. I'm hoping for clear weather on this day to get the best views. The park is more like a vista or lookout point. You need to watch your footing here because the terrain is little bit rocky. Here we can take a breather on the bench while enjoying the sights. There's also a "soft dirt" trail around the perimeter of this little park.

I know what you're thinking: "she wasn't kidding about the staircase part (!!)" But I hope you won't be deterred or daunted by the number of steps in each staircase. Please note there's no pressure or rush to blow through each staircase in leaps and bounds. I'm no athlete but my technique to climb the steps is nice...and...slow...and...steady.

Free street parking is available along 16th Ave and surrounding streets. Just a side note that Moraga St heading to 16th Ave is on a slight hill. Remember water and snacks as needed for you and your bff and also cleanup bags. There's no restrooms or water faucets on this route or at the park. But 19th Ave is just a few blocks away so I'm sure we can find a restroom at one of the local businesses if needed. Any questions send me an email or add a comment. I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
