We're back!!!! Doo Wop Hall Of Fame Fall Series
The Hollywood-based Doo Wop Hall of Fame, www.doowopmusic.org, takes its immensely-popular live music showcase on the road again, with the next stop scheduled for MAVERICK'S FLAT in Leimert Park on November 3rd at 5:00pm. Headliners for the evening include STREETKATZ and the LOS ANGELES MUSES, with the audience participation Chime-Off once again being coordinated on the spot by irrepressible doo wop legends Wally Roker of The Heartbeats and Charlie diComo of The Dukes of Doo Wop.
Maverick's Flat is a legendary nightspot founded by impresario John Daniels in 1966, having originally opened to rave reviews as one of the country’s premiere soul and R&B venues. Performances by legendary bands like Marvin Gaye, Earth Wind and Fire, the Temptations, Parliament Funkadelic and the Four Tops ensured the club’s reputation as the Apollo Theatre of the west coast. Under the new ownership of Curt Fralin, the club now offers first-class dining, two full-service bars and two outdoor patios, and the downstairs area maintains its vintage soul “Psychedelic Shack” pedigree and décor. Mavericks Flats is located at 4225 South Crenshaw Boulevard, Los Angeles CA 90008.
StreetKatz is a musically-diverse a capella group based in Los Angeles that began singing for tips in front of local theatre houses and on the streets of Southern California. They have since gone on to appear in films (Mighty Ducks II), television shows (Jack & Jill on WB, Party of Five, The Nanny, Mad About You and others) and at major theme parks (Disney, Universal Studios & Sea World). The StreetKatz have lent their voices as background to major recording artists (Rick James, Montel Jordan, Iv Xample) and have performed as opening acts for Joan Rivers, the Beach Boys, and Paul McCartney. If you’re really lucky, you can still hear them at the Music Centre in Downtown L.A. and at the Pantages Theatre in Hollywood, entertaining guests before they enter the lobby. (website)
The Los Angeles Muses, or The LA Muses, were founded in 2006 by Monika Beal, Natalie Moran, and Baraka Williams. These three songstresses studied Classical Voice at the Thornton School of Music at USC and are active members of the Classical Singer's Association. Fusing a love of tight harmonies, the LA Muses bring harmony to life with an energy and unique musicality. Trained and experienced in a variety of musical genres, each Muse brings her own edge and sensitivity to the trio's overall sound. Additional info can be found online at www.LosAngelesMuses.com.
"Chime Off" .... the Doo Wop Hall Of Fame encourages singers and singing groups to join us on stage prior to the featured performances. This is an opportunity to meet like minded singers who may want to form up and start a group or it can be a way for you to get seen by industry professionals. All singers should contact our Talent Directors, Charlie DiComo or Wally Roker thru this Meet Up site and pre-register. Or send an email to [masked].
The Doo Wop Hall of Fame is a 501©3 charitable organization, whose board of directors is comprised of local executives, legendary doo wop singers, record company executives and fans of a capella singing who have pledged to promote, preserve, perpetuate and develop doo wop music. Their mission statement is celebrated through local performances by various harmony singing groups, online archives on the history of doo wop music, and an in-school youth program that brings this wholesome genre of music to students throughout Southern California who may otherwise not have music classes available to them.
