February 2014 Jam Session

  • Feb 23, 2014 · 3:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Hello Everyone,

Jim & I will be there at 2:30 to setup, so please get there early so you can be ready to play at 3 pm.  The plan will be to finish promptly at 6 pm.

Just want to post a few reminders and suggestions to help our jam to continue to run smooth:

1. There is a small kitchenette that we can use at the Meeting house, so if you desire softdrinks, food or snacks please feel free to bring some along, but we typically do not provide these items. Additionally, the Friends Meeting does not allow alcoholic beverages on the property...

2. Please allow enough time for travel to get to the Meeting house just before 3:00 pm to setup. Jim and I will likely be there a bit earlier should you find yourself arriving a little before, so not to worry... We plan on finishing up around 6:00 pm.

3. Please do not forget to bring your copy of the song set list that we finalized in June 2010. It can be found at the following link: http://www.meetup.com...

Also, please bring 1-2 new songs that you wish the group to play, with enough copies for all attendees. This is really important; we need to ensure that we have enough music to cover the entire jam.... You will need a music & guitar stand for your use too.

When considering song choices please keep the level of difficulty in mind so that all attendees can participate. At times, some of the selections were beyond the skills of even some of our more proficient players. Not that an occasional tough one isn't a welcome challenge, but the easy songs flow better with the entire group. Of Course, we will always open up the floor to anyone that wants to do a solo for the group…

It's always easier for everyone in the group if you could take the time to write out the chords over the entire song rather than just a portion of the verse and chorus. This approach will minimize the struggle that many experienced by attempting to play a song for the first time while trying to simultaneously decipher the chord progression throughout the balance of the song.

4. Finally, if you would kindly RSVP either way so that we will know who to expect, it would be much appreciated - thanks!

Keeping ALL of these points in mind has gone a long way in assuring successful jams to date.

Hope to see many of you at the jam!

Frank

Pete Steger sure was involved with a lot of music. I loved the Beatles songs too.

Just FYI all, Kingston Trio, the Brothers Four, and Tom Paxton are all playing the American Music Theatre in Lancaster (across from the outlet mall) on March 14th. I hope to attend if it's not sold out and depending on what my gig schedule is

Hey Frank, I'm going to change my RSVP but I may still be there anyway. Played a birthday party yesterday and was feeling great all day, then this morning I'm hurting so I'm on ice right now hoping I can swing it.

Hey guys, once again I will not be able to make Molly's. My daughter has been away all weekend on a college visit and she returns this afternoon. We made plans to have dinner together which I do not want to disappoint. Hopefully next time!

Ok, gonna make a reservation for upstairs. For those meeting us there, ask for "Jammin' Friends" table!

Great! We're on for dinner at Molly's right after the jam. Everyone's invited, spouses included, just let me know so I'll have an idea how many people are coming and whether I need to make a reservation.

Dinner is a great idea. I am trying to figure out the logistics so my wife Ann can join us.

Hey David what's up ? Just a head's up David if you're coming tomorrow, the players gather in the round sometimes rather far apart from each other. It can be very difficult to hear everybody since they're all unplugged. My advice for your first time after hearing you at Jazmine is you're going to need to play with a lot less volume if you can. You have a soloist style and the room can really amplify that, so I just wanted you to be aware of that and let the acoustics stand forward...thanks buddy !

Greetings. Just know the basic cords but am committed to taking lessons and getting better. This seems to be a great group that would be inspirational while I learn and grow.

In remembrance of the passing of the great Pete Seeger can we honor him at the Feb jam by everybody
