LA Opera Performs "Thais", starring Placido Domingo

Placido Domingo stars as Athanaël in Jules Massenet's opera "Thais", an opera about an Egyptian courtesan (Thais) whom Athanaël attempts to convert to Christianity.  Placido Domingo, one of the greatest opera singers of his generation, has had an illustrious career and is now in his 70s.  Uniquely for him, he has also transitioned from a singer into a well-respected conductor.  Come listen to him sing while you still can!

The opera will be sung in French with projected English supertitles.

Based on the previous survey posted here, it looks like Sunday, June 1 at 2:00 pm would work for the most people.

Since different people have different levels that they are willing to spend for tickets, obtaining a ticket will be your own responsibility.  We will meet before the performance and during intermissions.  If enough people are interested, we will also go out to dinner at a nearby restaurant after the opera.  As of this writing (3/23), tickets are still available at all price levels.

Please indicate in the comments below if you would be interested in going out to dinner afterwards.

Really enjoyed the performance. Sorry to have missed meeting whoever attended, but met someone at the opera and have a new date so all's well...:)

Sorry, I won't be able to make it to the opera today. I gave up my 2 opera tickets :-( and gave them to friends in order to volunteer my time for Marianne Williamson for Congress in District 33 (marianneforcongress.com) in their last ditch effort to get more votes for the June 3 primary. Somehow, although I changed my RSVP, it would not remove my name off the RSVP list. It looks as though I am not a member. This had happened before and I had to re-join all my Meet-Ups. It is doing it again.

I will meet everyone near the gift shop at the orchestra level before the performance and during intermissions. I will have a meetup sign with me. If you have trouble finding me, you can call or text me at[masked]

Overall I did not like it. My impression was that the
music does not have character. Placido Domingo looks a little like a suburban housewife, something new with the face..... But his voice is still beautifuland the lady singing Thais does have a really good voice.

For those who don't get my attempt at humor, I was kidding about the going alone paying off. I'm just trying to be helpful here.

I have my ticket for June 1...I'll be sitting in Balcony A. I would definitely be interested in dinner.

Hi Joe - I am also in Balcony A. Hopefully we can meet before or after the performance!

    Hey,

My RSVP is tentative. I don't see a lot of commitment; or people confirming that they are really going; or that they have any interest in meeting up for dinner. If it's just about attending Thais, I can go anytime on my own. If it's on 6/1, I'd like to sit with someone in the group, and knowing we have some coherency to the event (no I'm not criticizing the great organizer).

    So:
    1. Who hasn't yet purchased their tickets?
    2. Would anybody like to buy tickets seated together? I'm open to any seating location--and almost all seating is still available; even nose-blead works for me :-)
    3. And who is going to dinner afterwards? Andy already asked, and nobody bothered to reply

If we can get this group to commit to something tangible, count me in. Namaste,
    Marcus

Thanks for the thought Hilory, but frankly this evening scenario is definitely not my cup of tea. I'm going to pass.

    Pre-opera talk starts at 1:00….

    • Andy 2.

Since not everyone may be interested in attending the pre-opera talk, I think it would be best to maintain the current meetup time. We will also also meet during intermission, and after the concert for dinner, for those that are interested.

    Hi,
I would love to go. How will it work regarding the tickets?
    Thanks!

    March 24, 2014

    • Andy 2.

Hi Chetana, you will have to get tickets yourself. From past experience I have come to conclude that this is the most efficient way. Please call the LA opera box office at [masked], or visit their web page at http://www.laopera.or....
