Paul:

"The Art of Dreaming" by Carlos Castaneda discusses the tutelage in many aspects of freeing oneself from limitations in dreaming. The full text is available on the web, or you can order it from Amazon.com here: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_c_1_19?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=the+art+of+dreaming&sprefix=the+art+of+dreaming

There's a book by Robert A. Johnson called "Inner Work" based partly on Carl Jung's work about "active imagination" where you relax while awake and actively daydream your way into the dream zone of consciousness. While there, not quite lucid, but close, and you might experience a stronger sense of control.  Look here: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_0_9?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=inner+work+by+robert+johnson&sprefix=inner+wor

One time I read in a book, maybe by Gurdjieff or Ouspensky, that when you can't run in a dream, it's because the impulse to run, going from your mind to your legs, is thwarted either by your legs being restricted under the bed covers, or by a chemical that your brain secretes during sleep that paralyzes the muscles. In either event, a small part of you that is awake knows your legs aren't moving and it panics you. Sometimes the panic itself is a roundabout way of waking yourself up.

I am a certified Gestalt Therapist, not currently in practice, but there's a technique of working with your dreams where you dialogue with your dream selves in empty chair that might be a way of exploring issues or memories, and empowering yourself to run in your dreams.

Hope this helps, but let's discuss it in the next group meetup,
Jeff

I am fascinated by this discussion. Jeff, do you recommend any books on this topic? Something I'd like to know and learn more of is gaining a better sense of self within dreams. Not so much to gain control or power but mainly to move as I dictate without limitation. For some reason, I cannot run when I am within a dream. I haven't researched this but it could be something to do with internal limitations or a fear I may be hanging on to. I'm looking forward to the next meeting and will look into the website you provided.

Well said, Leon. Among the uses for lucid dreaming, we should explore healing potential. Healing originates in the inner self. One doorway into the deeper self is lucid dreaming.

How to connect lucid dreams and healing is something our internal lucid dreaming self can explore. One idea is for healing this way is by visualizing the illness in our lucid dream and going after it with a healing laser beam.

The inner space of our unconscious can be as vast as the outer space in our universe. Difference is that we don't need to invent a star ship for inner space, we can wish to go places and arrive there instantly. we can wish for devices or assistants and they appear.

Take a look at this site for a very good breakdown of lucid dreaming as well as out of body experience (OOBE) techniques.
