What: Nice *aaS! How the tech world is sparing your computers
When: Thursday, June 28, 2012 6:30 PM
Where: Club Workspace, Clerkenwell Workshops
27/31 Clerkenwell Close, ECR1 0AT

One of the most remarkable trends in the tech world is that businesses and individuals alike are outsourcing more and more computer functions to those that can do it better and more efficiently. We've been hiring server space on giant mainframes for years, but now companies are springing up offering the likes of cloud storage, payment platforms, accounting software and so on - all affordable services which small businesses can hire. This event will explore the exciting world of *aas - computer functions As A Service. Our three entrepreneur speakers will share their experience providing - respectively - software as a service (SaaS), platform as a service (PaaS) and infrastructure as a service (IaaS). An accessible and fun insight into this growing phenomenon.
Speakers:
SAAS - 'subscription as a service'
Paul Joyce - founder of geckoboard
Paul is the co-founder and CEO of Geckoboard a SaaS company that makes it easy for any business to see all of their key metrics in one elegant real-time dashboard. Geckoboard connects to popular web services out of the box (Google Analytics, Freshbooks, Salesforce etc.) and their API makes it easy for customers to include data from their own sources too. Prior to starting Geckoboard Paul contracted for several financial institutions designing and building data warehouses.
PAAS (platform as a service)
Charlie Pool - Founder of Hitmeup.co , a marketing and promotion platform for businesses. Hitmeup allows real-time deal publishing capability to any business, anytime, anywhere. Brands and business owners can respond to real-time market conditions, as well as plan campaigns in advance, by creating flash sales and publish deals directly to Facebook or embed their deal page in banner ads, email or any social media channel. It puts businesses in control of social commerce, and in doing so disrupts the current daily deal market.
