Sherlock Holmes exhibit at OMSI

  • January 4, 2014 · 1:00 PM

the international Sherlock Holmes Exhibition. http://sherlockholmesexhibition.com/ Looks like a good opportunity for Victorian still lifes with a steampunk flavor. If 12+ people confirm I'll contact OMSI to try to get the group rate. I plan to go and check it out before this date and make sure it's awesome so will report back. Jan. 4 is the second to last day of the exhibit.

It's all good because it's all about getting out and about and taking time to sketch and visiting with all you great people.

Went back to Sherlock Holmes exhibit after Hair of the Dog pub food and drink and did some sketching until 7:30 pm. I enjoyed the whole get together. Learning from others is so much fun.

Disaster. Ticket sales to sherlock Holmes have been suspended! I just arrived at omsi. We will have to resort to plan B. Still meet by the electric Victorian car behind the sales booth. Alas.

Adapted plan. Holmes tickets suspended. We are still drawing in and around omsi. Meeting again at 3 pm by the electric car by the omsi ticket kiosk. If holmes tickets on sale then we will storm the exhibit. If not , onto the hair of the dog at 3.

Hello drawing group. New to the group. Last minute question, so I apologize. Are we meeting out front of OMSI or inside?

FYI - you can get a $2 off coupon at the Multnomah Co Libraries (looks like a bookmark) or other place that distribute flyers etc. I volunteer in the exhibit on Saturday nights and last Saturday was a complete zoo - over two times the normal visitation! Be prepared.

Okay, can't wait to see Sherlock Holmes. I hope its not too awfully busy. I'm going to look for a folding chair. Any ideas? And after is the Hair of the Dog gastropub.

OK. consider it done. Urban Spoon is the backup plan if OMSI is too crowded or doesn't work for some reason, or if you just have had enough and are ready to start drinking. http://www.urbanspoon.com/r/24/1547232/restaurant/Buckman/Hair-of-the-Dog-Portland

OK - So if I understand, our drinking spot, and also our backup drawing spot if OMSI is too crowded, is the Hair of the Dog gastropub at 61 SE Yamhill St (see link above from the UrbanSpoon site) which is 10 blocks due north of OMSI, on the corner of Water and Yamhill. (1 block south of Belmont). Got it!

Scott, Patty has a point (considering how busy PAM was last week). Let's solidify the after-museum drinking spot, and turn that into an alternative drinking location if OMSI is too packed to draw enjoyably!

should we bring somesort of folding chair to set and draw? not sure how this is set up to work

    January 2, 2014

    • Scott Lee S.

I didn't see any folding chairs at the exhibit when I visited. It would be good to have had one. There were some places to sit and draw but not many.

I checked out the sherlock exhibit today. It's worthwhile. If you aren't interested in that or don't want to pay the $18 ($17 if we have a group of 12 or more, even less if a group of 20 or more), there is a lot that can be sketched around omsi without paying for the exhibit. We can meet up behind the ticket kiosk where there is the electric car from one of the Downey Jr. Sherlock movies at 1. There isn't much near omsi, but there is this pub not too far away: http://www.urbanspoon.com/r/24/1547232/restaurant/Buckman/Hair-of-the-Dog-Portland we can meet there at 5. OMSI has parking for those driving. It's also on the CS street car line - last stop.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
