Tonight we will watch and critique a film being shown across the USA : “Koch Brothers Exposed” directed by Robert Greenwald. Koch Industries, a privately held corporation, has more than $100 billion in annual revenue from interests in energy, petrochemicals, textiles, pulp, paper, commodities trading, and finance. CEO Charles Koch and his brother, David, the executive vice president, are listed by “Forbes” as the world’s 12th and 13th richest billionaires -- each with a net worth of $25 billion. The film details how they have contributed millions to groups such as Americans For Prosperity (AFP) and the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) to execute arch-conservative political strategies. For example, they supported conservative Wisconsin Governor Walker’s anti-union agenda; and through ALEC, they have pushed voter ID laws that exclude the non-affluent. The brothers’ tens of millions in congressional and presidential campaign contributions and lobbying have swayed elections, curtailed environmental regulation, and enabled Koch Industries to obtain lucrative government contracts.
