Shannon River Cruise

  • May 24, 2013 · 1:00 PM

THERE ARE TWO SPOTS AVAILABLE. PLEASE CONTACT ME ASAP.  (JB)

UPDATE: 8-berth Classique cruiser booked for 24 - 27 May.

A map of the route and possible stops is available here.

So who's interested in a 4-night river cruise on River Shannon? Possible route would be from Carrick-on-Shannon to Athlone and back. Activities may include fishing, hiking, cycling, paintballing if I can find one nearby. Suggestions are welcome.

I'm booking an 8-berth cruiser with either Emerald Star or Silver Line. I would need to book this as soon as possible to guarantee a place. If you're interested join the waiting list, email me and I'll send you my paypal or bank account details. I would need a deposit of €177.43. Please be warned that costs can go up or down depending on which boat we can get. This only covers the boat rental and damage cover. No idea how much petrol's going to cost. I'll add you on the RSVP once I've confirmed payment. First come first serve

UPDATE

We need to be there an hour before for check in and instructions. I recommend we aim to be there for 2pm to do some shopping beforehand.

Upon arrival we will be provided with a detailed map of the waterways and lots of information about the towns, village and attractions we'll encounter on our trip. Activities will include:

Kayaking  €20.00

Shooting Range  €25.00

Zipit High Ropes €27.00 (3 hours)

Please check the following link: http://www.leboat.ie/my-cruise as preparation for the trip.

Thanks Louise. That's very helpful. Are you from around there? Maybe you can join us for dinner or something. I already have Lough Key planned.. do a bit of high ropes :D

      May 9, 2013

    • Louise L.

Not around that weekend unfortunately. Lough Key is great. Oh if I remember correctly, the boats wont have electrical output.....no hairdryers etc. But if you want to charge your phone, you have to be docked and plugged in, or engine running. Actually if one of you has one of those in car 12v transformers, that would be handy. The technology may have changed since I worked there 5 years ago though ;)

Ok guys so I've priced the return train to Carrick-on-Shannon and it's €60 including transaction fees. Train takes 3h10m and the drive will take 1h53m. Are people looking to get the train or carpool?

    May 16, 2013

    • Jb M. K.

The boat is returned at 9am on Monday so odds are we will be in Carrick-on-Shannon by Sunday.

Last time I did it, the most important thing to remember was the the stick used to measure the fuel level was very different to the stick used to measure the water level.

I have used them a few times and found them very good. Its a small family business and they are very hands on.
Only I'm away that week end I would have gone with you guys.

What was the total that you need from each of us for just the 3 nights??

    April 13, 2013

    • Jb M. K.

Maybe pay the deposit same as everyone coz I'm not about to change it.. too much of a pain. How about you guys pay less fuel than everyone else?

This idea looks amazing, really!!!! However I'd like to have more details such as the final price (more or less) as well as what's the plan (E.g: shall we bring foods & drink ? are we going to stop sometime ? where? )

    April 12, 2013

    • Jb M. K.

The €177.43 is just for the boat rental and damager cover. It doesn't include petrol, food, activities. It will be more of a see where the river takes us kind of thing :P We'll stop wherever the group agrees to stop

      April 13, 2013

  • Dana

Such a pity I'm away that weekend - this was one of those things I'm still dreaming of doing :-) have fun!
