The adventure agency are happy to take more people if needed so if you're looking to join us this weekend please contact Ronan on[masked] regarding payment. Don't forget to contact me on meetup, text [masked]) or email ([masked]) so I can add you to the list.
Hope you are looking forward to your Mountain Skills course this weekend.
Please note the following:
· Meeting point Saturday: Brockagh Centre, Laragh. Map: http://goo.gl/maps/WuKnY
· Time: 09:30am
· Finish time: 4:30pm at the latest
· Sundays meeting point and time will be agreed on Saturday but will be near Glendalough.
· Weather: it will be very cold. Rainwear (jacket & trousers) are essential as are boots, we cannot let people onto the mountain without these vital pieces of kit.
· Other important kit: torch with batteries, food (and loads of it), hat & gloves, snacks, drinks, if you have a sheet 56 map please bring it along. If not let us know and we’ll bring you a map.
· Please don’t wear shorts, trainers or jeans/denims.
The first hour on Saturday will be indoors then we’ll be out on the hill for the rest of the day and Sunday. We don’t cover a lot of distance either day but there’s a lot to learn!
See you then, if you’ve any problems finding the location or if you have any questions please call me on [masked] .
The Mountain Skills (MS) course provides a general introduction to hillwalking in Ireland. Offering a solid foundation for gaining personal mountaineering proficiency, it teaches the necessary skills in mountain safety, navigation techniques, knowledge of hazards, and personal equipment, so that a person finishing the course may be in a position to safely, and competently, take to the hills. The Mountain Skills scheme also provides foundation training for those who wish to progress to further leadership qualifications, such as the Mountain Leader (ML).
Typically the training is divided into two blocks Mountain Skills 1 and Mountain Skills 2, each run over a two day period - 23rd and 24th February. I'll most likely be organising MS2 the following month.
It's normally €150pp but the Adventure Agency has kindly offered us a discount of €95pp if we can get a minimum of 6. We've to pay in advance by cash, cheque or credit card. I'll provide the payment details later. I'll also update the start and end times and meeting point once they've been confirmed.
Ring the Adventure agency on[masked] or[masked]and ask for Ronan. "Mountain Skills on 23rd Feb with the Dublin Adventure Sports Group at €95"
If you'd like I can pay on your behalf. You can send your money via paypal to [masked]. Please include your name, email and mobile number. Make sure you update your RSVP once you've paid.
DEADLINE FOR PAYMENT is Wednesday, 13th February. It has to be paid 10 days in advance.
WHAT TO BRING?
Map and compass - Available on request so let me know if you need one.
Hiking boots - This is essential. It will determine which route we will take so make sure you have one.
We will be hiking on both days so bring the necessities like water, waterproof gear, lunch and snacks, etc.
If people are interested we could also organise to stay the night in Wicklow. For more info check the Adventure Agency website or the Mountaineering Ireland website.
