New project, let's get more people directing!

Discussing two new projects, with an aim towards getting as many people behind the camera as possible.

The first is more long term, after the success of Falling (well it's not finished yet but the rushes look kick ass!), it perhaps time to look at a different way of going about making film, speaking to people in the group over they years it's clear quite a lot of people want to direct act etc. but only very few will get to do this if we make one or two shorts every year. This means that very few people really get out of the group what they hope to, which is a pity.

The idea is to develop a short film that would be

a) more actor led than script led

b) would allow for an ensemble of directors to partake

To this end I have been in contact with a dublin-based acting school that teaches the Meisner technique (Google it), it is the first of it's kind in Ireland and will be producing it's first fully fledged graduates in December this year, the idea is to have a project in place where we could work with those actors straight after they graduate to create a short anthology piece, set in the one locality (like the film New York Stories, but shorter and with more directors), the short pieces will operate from a basic premise and be developed in partnership with the actors rather than from a script per se.

As December is quite a way off, and the second project then is more short-term, and it would be the idea of doing a series of 24-hour film challenges over the Summer, say one per month from May through to September. Between now and May the focus would be putting in place themes, ideas and infrastructure for this.

Lastly all this could be put to work for a more long term goal of applying for funding from the arts council, Irish film board and similar bodies in January-February 2015. Such funding would be extremely useful if we are to develop more long-term, bigger projects, for example money for people to develop scripts, buy equipment etc.

That's the jist, I have The Long Stone booked now for every fortnight on Thursday from the 27th of this month onwards, it's quite a nice little venue and they've a MASSIVE smoking garden!

So there.

I would be interested in discussing the possibility of trying to finance a feature-length co-production between my German company and an Irish group or organization or company, utilizing both Irish funds and German funds.

Hi guys, is this more about directing or for all kind of crew members? I study videography focussed on the cameraman and the lighting work. Also photography BTW :)

If enough people do then fine, no harm no foul, if not then figure something else out or go back to the original model of developing from one script with one director, one director of photography, etc. Personally I think we've gone as far with that as we can with the last film and for a group that has a lot of members but only a few active contributors maybe it's time to think of a different approach one that might 'activate' more participation and engagement so everyone gets more out of it.
