Walk to Ballycorus Chimney

  • May 12, 2013 · 1:30 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

The chimney at Ballycorus - oft mistakenly called a shot tower - is a remnant of mining activity at Ballycorus. The Chimney and associated roadside flue are unique in Ireland.

We will meet at Brady's Pub in Shankill and follow the Dublin Mountains Way to Ballycorus - return journey via Mine Hill Lane and Ballycorus Road to allow us to see the chimney flue and some of the other buildings. Please note that this walk is primarily a hill walk and appropriate footwear is required.

    Hi Edan;

    Hi Ewan, This is just a suggestion. Why not start this walk in Shankill village where there is plenty of parking, and also the Dart and excellent bus service, and follow the Dublin Mountain Way to the leadmines. It is fully signposted and it takes an hour from Shankill village to reach the leadmines. Another advantage is that Brady's pub will be right at the end of the walk when we return :)

    I'm afraid I have to cancel too - sudden family illness so I'll have to stay close to home.
