Zombie Apocalypse Part 2!

  • Sep 2, 2013 · 7:00 PM

The monthly Dublin Riak meet-up is back at TCube and this time you're going to need your laptop. Here's how the evening will look:

• Intro to Riak: a quick five minute introduction for anyone new to Riak!

Riak for gaming: a look at some of the ways in which gaming companies are using Riak to build scalable, highly available, fault tolerant game back-ends.

Zombie Apocalypse part 2: last time we got set up with Riak on our laptops. This month we're going to start the zombie hunt. Bring your laptop!

Afterwards, we'll head to the pub for some beers on Basho.

The afternoon beforehand, we're sponsoring free co-working at TCube. You'll also be able to come along and chat Riak with the Basho team as part of our office hours ... we'll also help you get Riak installed ready for the evening :)

    Really like the way Riak meetups are organized:
    1) Riak use cases / technical stuff- talk(s)
    2) Zombie - workshops

    If all goes well, you should end up like that:

    riak@riak1:~/riak-1.3.2/dev$ ./dev5/bin/riak-admin member-status
    == Membership ==================
    Status Ring Pending Node
    ----------------------------------------------------
    valid 20.3% -- 'dev1@[masked]'
    valid 20.3% -- 'dev2@[masked]'
    valid 20.3% -- 'dev3@[masked]'
    valid 20.3% -- 'dev4@[masked]'
    valid 18.8% -- 'dev5@[masked]'

    @Brian shortly:
    [ Install riak from Source ]
    - make sure you have prerequisites installed (like erlang erlang-dev erlang-parsetool and the ones mentioned here: http://docs.basho.com/riak/1.3.2/tutorials/installation)
    - use riak user under VM with 'ulimit -n 4096' under ~/.bashrc
    - download riak 1.3.2 and extract under ~/riak-1.3.2
    - cd ~/riak-1.3.2 && make devrel DEVNODES=5

    [ Start Nodes ]
    - cd dev
    - for i in {1..5}; do ./dev$i/bin/riak start && echo "Riak node dev$i started"; done

    [ Create Cluster ]
    - for i in {1..4}; do ./dev$i/bin/riak-admin cluster join dev5@[masked]; done
    - ./dev5/bin/riak-admin cluster plan
    - ./dev5/bin/riak-admin cluster commit
    - ./dev5/bin/riak-admin member-status
