This Dublin Bay Sailing MeetUp group is for people who like the outdoors; for people interested in experiencing something perhaps a little different; who might like to take a deep breath of richly oxygenated soft air, cast off from the proverbial rock and take a different perspective as you look back to land from Dublin Bay on board a 31ft yacht.

Dalkey Island, Dalkey Sound and Muglins beckon, as do the porpoises and possibly dolphins if we’re lucky.

It’s for people who are happy to share a little time with a smaller group (maximum 5 including me!) and get to know people in a different and better way as you share an activity that asks a little teamwork.

Life jackets will be provided and must be worn regardless of how beautiful the weather is. More advice will be provided to Dublin Sailor Meetup participants on suitable attire in advance. But the yacht is designed for sailing more than sun-bathing so think more along the lines of hiking gear (without the heavy boots!) than sipping G&T’s in the Mediterranean.

Sailing trips duration: Most outings tend to naturally run for around 2 hours. It's good to cover 3 hours parking in case we run on a bit though.

Where we’ll be departing from: The yacht is moored in Dun Laoghaire Marina (beside the entrance to the Stena Line). It’s very close to the Dart Line too.

How Much: Most people donate €25 each and some a little more. A number of people have been asking recently what's a reasonable donation towards the boat and this is the best guidance I can provide; €25 per person seems to be about right. It’s up to you. You can make a donation at the Meetup for an amount that you feel is reasonable. If you can't, that's fine too.

When: Will be defined by the amount of interest; the weather, boat maintenance and a bunch of other variables; it’s sort of chicken and egg. I'll e-mail members about upcoming trips as they arise, with as much advance notice as possible. Sometimes, I'm not great at that though!!

Stuff about the boat: The yacht is not the poshest piece of plastic on the water, but there are a few creature comforts on board like toilet, shower, hot and cold running water and a full cooker. So don’t be concerned about being caught short. We won’t be cooking up a roast chicken but there’ll be a steady stream of coffee and tea and the odd biscuit.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
