Hello New Members! Make a Splash at Seapoint on Saturday

The tide is later this week, which means we get a lie-in this Saturday; it also means that we will be out of our depth so  no walking this time. We've got some new members in the group this week, will they take the challenge?

This Saturday we are going to Seapoint for a swim followed by a cuppa in a local café. This is a great event if you are a regular swimmer, a newbie or anything in between.

The swim

If you are joining us for the first time, check out the Discussions section for tips on getting ready as well as safety advice.

Wear a bikini, wetsuit or lather yourself up in goose fat - whatever is needed to stay comfortable at this time of year. Some of us will swim lengths, others will just dip in and then out.

And remember, whilst we do look out for one another the swim is at your own risk.

After the swim

After the swim we pick a local café, in Blackrock or Monkstown usually, for copious amounts of tea as well as some food and plenty of chat. Join now

If you have not met the group yet, we are a friendly bunch and you can meet on the day or make yourself known beforehand and one of us will make sure you get to meet everyone else.

I’m Francois and you can reach me on [masked].

Anyone know are these up and running yet?

A UNISEX changing room is to be built near the Forty Foot bathing area.

Dun Laoghaire Rathdown councillors passed a proposal last night that will result in a building at Sandycove Harbour, open to everyone.

It will adjoin the existing lifeguard shelter.

The Forty Foot is one of the capital's most popular bathing sites.

Under the new plan, the existing fisherman's hut will be removed in order to pave the way for the new shelter and changing area.

Council officials said the wall between the fisherman's hut and lifeguard shelter is to be removed, and the new unisex shelter will have a covered changing area and separate shower area.

The current shelters located at the Forty Foot, which are operated by the Sandycove Bathers' Association, are for men only.

One of the shelters is for changing, while the other is used for clubhouse facilities.

I think Francois is talking about some of the existing 40ft shelters Stephen.

Sorry about the weather! I am all the more impressed that people showed up who weren't signed up. Once again SEAL solidarity showed you can turn up without any gear and the rookery (yes, that's a word) will provide. Thanks for the chocolate btw.

Either Mellow Fig made a mistake or somebody left without paying for their coffee - I picked up the tab. We were lucky to get a table and be able to hang on to it for so long. Good place for food, what did you think?

See you all (?) next week or in between.

Yup good spot, liked the food, cute waitresses - and did I mention the tea-cosies? What's not to like? :-)

Loved my goats cheese and roast pepper on brown bread dish. That brown bread was to die for! Why does no where we go want to give me a WHOLE teapot all to myself though? Still you can't beat their tea cosies!

These meetups just keep getting better and better! Great to have the group support on a grey rainy day, loooads of tea and chat in The Mellow Fig cafe most welcome afterwards. Amazingly creative hand-knitted tea-cosies there... no seriously!!

What a way to overcome a dull and rainy day! A really great turnout for any day especially in January. All the new year's resolutions are holding firm. Thanks Francois for organising. See you all next week when I shall try to improve the weather for us.

      January 16

    • Veronika

Not sure, but in general things are more likely to come up on Saturdays. Enjoy the swim guys. Anyone is welcome to join me on Sunday (I know, I know, that was just a rhetorical question, I suppose.)

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
