Telemachus Swim (James Joyce Tower @ Forty Foot)

Seals and scholars rejoice: it's too late to read Ulysses between now and Bloomsday but we can gather this Sunday for an exhilarating Seals swim where the first chapter (titled Telemachus) takes place. The swim will be followed by a world-class Seal-stop at a local establishment.

Options for your individual swims include: dipping at the 40 ft. swimming all the way around, swimming halfway around (there's a slipway halfway) and any other variation you can think of. Wear whatever is comfortable for the swim: swimsuit, wetsuit, bikini, mankini, goggles, ear plugs, socks, gloves... and any other variation you can think of.

Bring - for after the swim - some refreshments or warm drinks, hot bottles, dry towels, fresh clothes, gorgonzola sandwiches, cookies... and any other variation you can think of.

Remember that you swim at your own risk and that means you need to follow all safety rules and guidelines. Dublin Sea Swimming only facilitates the meeting of swimmers before and after the swim.

Yes, great afternoon. Lovely weather and water, a few of those curious other seals came for a look and a picnic in the park. Thanks for organizing Francoise.

Francois (no 'e') but apart from that delighted to have spent such a lovely day with all you Seals!

Apologies Francois. Now I know why I didn't get an honour in my Leaving Cert. French!

    Sunniest swim ever?

    June 16, 2014

    • Francois

Burnt face shame. Skin cancer caused by the sun is shockingly high in Ireland and lethal.

You're right François. I managed to stay on the right side of the sun this time but it's definitely time to take care and slop on the suncream. Safety first.

Great to have spent such a beautiful swimming with you all amazing Seals. Pity some of you didn't find us and that we lost others after the swim on the way to the park. See you next time! Make the most of the weather during the week and suggest some swims on the group homepage if you're looking for company!

Was looking forward to hooking up with the group again after been AWOL for weeks but I have got a cold of all things now. Feels really weird to have one this time of the year. Strange I didn't get one after all the winter swims but now that summer has arrived I am hacking and coughing and spluttering. Hopefully will be able to rejoin you guys soon.

Would love to go but I am in Donegal so will have a dip in the Atlantic instead to keep the Seal flag flying in The Forgotten County :)

    2 · June 14, 2014

Poor Richard, sounds awful, stuck on the Atlantic coast... See you soon.

Enjoy! Won't make it as I'm down in Kerry this weekend...

    June 14, 2014

    • Nichola

Have a swim down there and fly the flag!

Arrive 2pm if you want to catch SONGS FROM THE EARLY 1900s performed by the Ceiliuradh Choir at the tower. The performance stops at 2.30pm just in time for our meetup. Look out for the Dublin Sea Swimming 'Seal' logo if you are new.
