Never been a fan of GUI's myself, but the talk was really good, and its a useful skill to have. Agreed on Shiny and RStudio, though I worry that the RStudio guys are gonna have trouble making enough money to keep going.

I hate designing GUIs, but I think being able to throw up something rough-and-ready quickly for non-techies is very useful. I really want to give Shiny a look, that is supposed to be excellent. The RStudio guys are doing some great work.

Really great talk, I now feel the urge to start writing GUI's.

Very interesting stuff, particularly the idea of attaching metadata to the data.frame
