New Years Eve - torchlight procession & fireworks

Lets meet up and capture the torchlight procession , plus the fireworks at Stephens Green. I will be going on to the concert in College Green after that but we should have the chance to take some nice shots

http://www.nyedublin.ie/festival-schedule

The torchlight procession details are below.

Parade Departs: 6.30pm

Parade Route: Suffolk Street, Andrew Street, South William Street, Clarendon Row, South King Street, St. Stephen’s Green West

The torches are actually LED Lanterns

Fireworks: Are from 8pm. The Fireworks will be launched from St Stephen's Green.

Where do people think would be a good spot to try and set up ?

There were so many photographers hanging around Suffolk street last night, I didnt want to embarrass myself asking were they with this meetup group.
I still think for future reference there should be a reference sign of who we are, if the Masons can do it, and the Klu Klus Klan, why cant we?...Hands in your pocket, two fingers on the outside...simples!
As for the Fire works last night...
Crickey, i blinked and i almost missed it!
I did manage to get myself into a nice location, the press enclosure in front of the Memorial arch, much to the chagrin of an American Tourist whose toes i stepped on.
Got some Nice photos to, well I think?
    post some later!

Nice pics, I can see where you used your tripod! I have problems uploading pics up to this site every time! It takes an age then stops after about two... Almost not worth it - although I hate Facebook at least you can upload photos quickly.

Lovely photos all. I did set up a Flickr group for this group a long time back I could revive it if people would prefer to upload there ?

Fireworks were fine - not the World's Most Amazing Event like the announcer annouced lol. More for families and kids I think which is why they were on at 8pm not midnight, but nice that Dublin had fireworks at all because i think it's the first time, right?

First time they had fireworks so centrally and on New Year's Eve. They had them before for Skyfest on St Patrick's Day. Sorry I didn't get to meet ye. The procession of Light was a tad disjointed and confusing but something different anyway.

Will we need a tri-pod? I would meet at 6 if that suits everyone else?

    December 30, 2012

i would say its best to bring a Tri-pod, i am, better for photographing the fire works with a slow 4 sec shutter speed. same principal for photographing the torch light procession. Should be some interesting photos taken tonight!

Iv been thinking, that if anyone has a car, they could park it on the top floor of either the college of surgeons or the brown thomas carpark, that way you could set up your tripod there and have a none crowded view of the fireworks!

    Hi,
I will be there this evening and maybe do some filmming as well - so is it 6 or 6.30 at Suffolk street tourist office? I prefer 6.30 to avoid waiting around :)

Hi all sorry I haven't been online to update this event. I volunteered to take part in the torchlight parade and then kind of forgot about it. Anyway, my request was accepted so I am in the parade! I've updated the event with details of the parade route. As a participant I will be brought to a specific viewing area for the fireworks. Would it suit people to meet at the tourist office before 6.30pm ?
You could discuss where to set up for the fireworks then ?

If anyone would like to co-host let me know and I'll add you as a host.

I've added my phone number - 0867236720. Even though I'm in the parade I should still be able to co-ordinate everyone meeting up.

Sorry, I've made it a bit complicated

Hi, I'm also going to meet the group for the first time. Have we a place in mind to meet and is it 6 sharp? We have atleast 3 defenites going by the comments anyway :)

OK, i know iv been putting off meeting up with you guys for a long time, but iv been still getting the updates of upcoming events and such, and in the meantime iv been busy practising on my own.
Id really like to meet up for this one, especially for the fireworks, but carrying my camera and tripod around i would feel a tad bit vulnerable on my own considering the crime spree the city centre is going through at the moment!
Is there a secret handshake or something so that il know when i meet a photographer that he/she is from this group?
