I'd like to invite you and your community to join Loudoun Veg in taking a Vegan Food Stamp Challenge during the week of October 13th - 19th.
The Challenge is about thinking globally and acting locally around the issue of hunger. By taking the Challenge, you're helping raise awareness of food insecurity faced by millions of people here at home and around the world. By following a vegan diet, you’re helping build a sustainable food system needed to feed the world’s growing population. By donating what you save during the Challenge to your local food pantry, you’re helping a neighbor from going hungry.
How it works: A family or individual goes on a food stamp budget for a week while following a plant-based diet. Based on SNAP data, we suggest a budget of $30 per person for the week. We encourage you to consider donating what you save that week in food or money to a local food pantry.
We also invite you to attend our kick-off event at St. Matt's Episcopal Church in Sterling on October 13th at noon, when Marla will be sharing ideas for affordable, healthy vegan meals at a cooking demonstration.
During the week of the Challenge, we will also be hosting a Stone Soup Potluck and Food Drive on October 16th in recognition of World Food Day that all are welcome to attend
I also invite you to join the conversation on our Vegan Food Stamp Challenge Facebook page.
