Having spent a long time away from short poses I'm personally finding this brisk session immensely helpful. It's forcing me to evaluate the way in which I disfigure the paper, what it is I respond to in the pose, what is the most effective way to depict what is seen. In a series of one minute poses bad habits become stark through repetition and new approaches can become quickly embedded.
It is exhilarating and the evening is over all too soon
We meet at 7.00pm and have an hour of shorter poses, including a challenging dynamic pose, followed by longer poses ( 10 or 20mins usually, we choose) after a short break for refreshments and chatting. There is no formal tuition but advice can be obtained freely and lavishly by tugging at the sleeve of someone who appears to know what they’re doing. We're now ending the evening with a mutual appraisal of each others work as we've found that talking about drawing can help to bring things forward as much for ourselves as for those whose work we review.
Being amongst others who love drawing and strongly desire to improve their efforts is an excellent tonic for those getting back into drawing after a break.
The cost of the session is £10.00 payable at half-time with a suggested donation of £2.50 for wine and beer and 50p for coffee and tea.
Lighting, easels and drawing boards supplied - paper 20p per sheet, bring anything else you need. We're also supplying good quality A3 drawing books at £10 as a solution to endless sheaves of loose drawings. You could even leave the book in our cupboard if taking it to work is daunting!
It’s all over by 9.00pm but as it’s a drop-in group you can come back at any time and have another go, there’s no commitment other than to yourself!
