Dear DuPont Circle Gamers:
Please join Ming and me for an afternoon of Mahjong and Chinese Poker.
Both of these games are hugely popular in China. Ming will teach the Hong Kong rules of Mahjong, rather than the American variant of the game that was developed in the 1930s.
If you are interested in taking a look at the Mahjong suits or the Chinese Poker card combinations, see the Wikipedia pages below. However, Ming cautions that these pages make the games seem overly complicated, which they are not. The games are really straightforward and easy to learn.
If you have a Mahjong set, please feel free to bring it. Also, just in case we are short if you have a deck of regular playing cards, you can bring them along. Finally, if you have other Asian games that you would like to share such as Chinese Chess, Land Battle Chess (the forerunner of Stratego) or other games, please bring them. Unfortunately, Chinese checkers was developed in the United States and isn't Chinese at all :).
Looking forward to seeing everyone at Au Bon Pain on 13th and L Streets, NW on Sunday!
Best Regards, Mary
